It’s quite odd though how and who get their caps though. It took OHD a long time to get his but did I see correctly that some of our recent overseas players got given one on debut? I may be mistaken.
I had forgotten that Hose was still here. Forgotten man.
A good start would be to sign some dependable bowlers who do not have a track record of getting injured for large parts of a season. I don't know where the rumours about OHD leaving came from but if they are true then we are really are in trouble and getting out of Division 2 could not be taken for granted.
Another match where we get ourselves into a good position but cannot take advantage, typifies the season really.
Oh well, the second division isn't too bad and we will get a few more local matches to go to.
I've found it all to be just depressing this season, I didn't renew this year because I changed job and I didn't have as much availability so I couldn't justify the cost. I've been a couple of times to the T20 and a single 50 over match as that was all I could get to and I just found the whole experience to be poor.
The roads were a nightmare with night closures after games, parking was problematic with blue badge holders (and members) struggling to get parked close to the stadium. The increasingly yobbish behaviour in the 'Party Stand' which keeps getting bigged up and encouraged by big names, I saw at least three matches where fights broke out and the Police forced to escort people out of the ground.
All that before I mention the poor quality cricket on offer....
But I need not worry, Sir Strauss is going to fix it all by reducing what we have but charging us more for the privilege.
Durham are hardly a case for proper management and coaching, they have just released their Head Coach and sit firmly in the mid table of Division 2 having also struggled badly in white ball competitions.
That being said I am glad that Benjamin has scored some runs, didn't Bethell also score some runs for Gloucester (the irony) earlier this season on loan?
Alternatively the club has invested in players for the next few years, allowing inexperienced players the time to develop.
And now the anchors will be dropped, the runs will dry up, we will probably lose wickets and be five down for not many.
Another brilliant overseas signing 🙈
I wonder if we are in for Masood as the overseas for next year? He has been, by all accounts, superb for Derbyshire this year and it’s been reported he has agreed to join another county rather than stay at Derby. He would potentially cover the loss of Sibley as an opener.
Yates has certainly struggled this season and was rightly dropped. I don’t think it’s necessarily a bad thing if players who are struggling are backed and shown belief in.
Eventually a decision was made to take him out of the firing line, perhaps a game or two too late but there we are. If he can rediscover the form shown last year then that would definitely be beneficial in our battle to stay in the division.
I don’t believe jumping on the back of a player, certainly a youngster, constantly is productive. You never know…he may even read this forum. Lots of our players have been poor this year, lots of questions get raised because of that. However I won’t stop hoping that the change in fortune is just around the corner.
Perhaps Sibley is being picked to try and get some form for later in the season in a bid to avoid relegation?
It’s good to see Yates make a score, I hope this competition does likewise and helps him recover from his struggles earlier on.
Whilst going into the match we were not expecting a result, it is pretty galling to see where we are now when compared to last night.
It’s going to take a monumental effort to stay in the division I think.
And another one bites the dust.
Another questionable decision for Burgess too. Will we get DRS in the county championship at some point I wonder?
But four wickets down this early is not good for our chances.
Two early wickets down, I didn’t see the Rhodes dismissal but Hain looks like he had a shocker of a decision.
AD was a great bowler but just because he played for us doesn’t mean he would be a great bowling coach.
Matt Mason came with a big reputation from his time down under, he had a very good article written about him on cricinfo…if I was more tech savvy I would include it. The way this season has gone he has certainly not appeared to live up to that reputation.
Playing devils advocate here but we have had lots of ‘true bears’ in the coaching set up and many people have complained about an old boys network and have spoken in favour of having an outsider come in.
Personally I just don’t think we should have allowed Welch to leave and should have gone all in to keep him here.
I love that Briggs went out with Sibley.
What has happened to Johal? He made such a promising debut last year.
It’s early in his time with us, but the new bowling coach is certainly not having much of a positive effect.
Norwell has only bowled three overs thus far. As I’m only following on bbc sport can anyone watching the stream see if he is still on the field? I hope he isn’t injured.
