Same team, lost the toss and bowling first. I hope Hain makes a speedy recovery. Hopefully going to be proven wrong but I think the top four as it is looks a little brittle, Stirlings first match notwithstanding.

Oh and the stadium announcer was terrible.

An excellent knock by Benjamin, he took his time and then let loose. Hose scored some good boundaries but doesn’t seem to run hard between the stumps and cost us a few runs that Benjamin wanted.

Intelligent knock at the end from the captain.

Yates looked well out of sorts in his brief appearance. Davies came and went as he has all season. Bethell was an odd dismissal. Stirling tried another slog and mistimed it.

Not a bad match to watch though, shame the weather was a bit hit and miss.

We should never have let Barker go.

Yates is really struggling too at 3. Trotty doesn’t seem to be having too much of an impact as batting consultant so far.

Agreed, he has been given some time but he simply has not delivered.

Shambles.

I spoke to soon, pity for Rhodes to miss out on the century.

From a batting perspective it could be argued that even without changes in personnel the line up could change. Last year we regularly saw Rhodes and Yates open so there could be a shuffle to try and help batsmen find some form.

Great to see the character this afternoon though with Hain and Rhodes in particular.

This is really not looking good. The white ball window might actually be coming at a good time for us. A chance to try and regroup.

There surely has to be some changes for the next match, this line up is simply not delivering.

The players obviously have talent but the whole point of a squad is that players out of form can be rotated out.

I’d like to see us have a good opening partnership to set the rest of the innings up. A lot of batsmen out of form so fingers crossed that they can get themselves in and make some runs.

I really don’t want to see Davies get a quick 20 odd (or less) and then get out.

The odd thing about looking at all the other scores is thy so many captains who won the toss chose to field but have hardly made any inroads on the opposition.

Early in the season I know but it is very quickly turning into a huge anticlimax after last year.

Apparently he is injured but strangely was included in the squad. Slightly concerned about his continued absence.

Not a very good start to the reply, we need some of our upper order batsmen to find some form. I wonder if there was a degree of complacency in expecting Somerset to struggle with the bat as much as they have in recent games?

I thought McAndrew was a last minute replacement for Bresnan after his decision to retire so I can kind of understand that we were looking later in the window than some others. I was surprised that he opened the bowling though with OHD, I was expecting him to be a second change bowler who could add to the batting line up.

Certainly seems to have been an interesting decision to field first.

It’s a shame Derbyshire are no longer on the list, geographically they were quite handy to go to when there wasn’t a home match at Edgbaston.

Nice to see Ed scoring 112 today!

Not the best of starts, we do seem to struggle early on in the season.
