Don’t be silly, Woakes is far too important as the waterboy for England!
Hain seemed in discomfort after a making a dive for a quick two runs. Fingers crossed it’s not too serious.
We did score 200+ today though. Although I didn’t think we would and we left it too late to attack. Hain was sublime and without him we would be in a mess.
For me today the difference was one of their ‘big’ players scored big. Hales failed but Munro delivered. Both of ours, Ali and Maxwell simply didn’t deliver.
Having done absolutely no research at all I think Maxwell is coming in too high, I don’t know where he has played in other competitions but I always thought of him as a number 5.
I’d drop Benjamin, who hasn’t really contributed any significant runs, bring Yates back in at the top and move Ali to 3, Sam at 4 and Maxwell 5.
Nice to see former bear Mark Adair doing well for Ireland this morning against England. Another young player who didn’t really progress at the club after making his debut.
With a game tomorrow it’s hard to have the time to learn the weaknesses, it will be a case of just going again.
I’m going tomorrow so I hope it’s a more competitive match….Notts also lost today so both teams will be wanting to prove a point.
I would say that Benjamin might be a player who is vulnerable if they want to bring Yates back in.
Oh dear, give Davies back the captaincy…..
It could be the change in bowling coach? Pop is renowned for getting the best out of bowlers, since he left certain bowlers have struggled.
It’s certainly been the round of matches for batting collapses. 5 wickets for less than 50 runs, undoing the good work from this morning. Conditions have changed and the sun is no longer shining but it’s still disappointing.
Sorry...I put the mockers on Sam. I'll remain silent until the end of the match.
A very satisfactory morning session. Got to be happy that the England selectors don't seem to be a fan of Sam Hain as he is so vital to the club!
Four wickets in four overs for one run. Quite a debut so far! Let’s hope he can continue, good for us and Derbyshire.
The openers did alright for the first two matches though Highveld, it almost feels like you have been waiting for them to fail. I’m certainly not in the pro Davies camp but after a couple of good scores I’m willing to give him a chance to show some kind of positive consistency. Yates had a lot to prove after struggling so much last season but has already shown some good form.
I’ve not been following and have just seen the score though so it is of course disappointing. Let’s see what how we do with the ball in our hands.
Although getting out after reaching a hundred is preferable to getting out after getting one like last year.
A good innings, let’s hope it continues throughout the year because if he can get back some of what he had two years ago then we will be in a much stronger position this season than last.
Two quick wickets down, need to consolidate.
First day of the pre season for me, delighted to be back online with you all.
I think the CC will be a struggle, our batting has not been a strong point for most of my time as a member or a supporter. Hopefully the bowling will be able to make up for it and one or two batsmen can have a good season. Relegation battle but it will depend on the other counties, we have been fortunate recently that there have been worse teams than us.
I think T20 will be inconsistent, big wins and big defeats. Probably getting to quarter finals.
50 over will be interesting to view, I’d like to see a balanced squad with youth getting experience and established players guiding. Knock out stages would be good.
Stadium, last year was for me the worst I’ve experienced Edgbaston. Road closures, traffic jams, confusion over members parking and disabled parking across all formats. I’d like to see more effective communication from the club about parking and general travel conditions for those fans who have to travel and public transport isn’t feasible.
Let’s have a good one!
A few four day matches starting on a Thursday so we could see some cricket on an actual weekend!
Perhaps fewer members but they make up a greater percentage of the gate at the county ground than our membership does at Edgbaston. They will also draw a lot of extra spectators, that’s the benefits of the T20 games.
Really hard to understand their agreement with this. U less it’s a case of them having some Women internationals being hosted around that time?
More than a slight inconvenience for Derbyshire fans, imagine our members were told that one of their home games was being moved down the road? I recall something similar happening in the CC a few years back and it didn’t prove popular.
Farbrace has already announced he is leaving, Highveld.
