Now that Exiled Bear has elevated me to the title of Super Moderator, I have the super power of being able to delete spam posts. So between Exiled Bear and I, we should be able to get rid of offending posts pretty quickly and E B will banish the offending posters from the site.
I don't think there was anything like the same scrutiny of social media usage back in 2011-13 when the offending tweets were posted. Had they been picked up, they would surely have been seen as unacceptable and hopefully some action would have been taken.
I think the key thing is that Yorkshire have taken some drastic actions to address the problems that existed, including getting rid of pretty well all the senior people. So it would maybe be a bit unfair to punish the new regime who have made all these changes. Even so, it is still only a conditional reprieve. They have to make amendments to club rules and also remove the powers of the Graves Trust (controlled by ex-Chair Colin Graves) to influence club affairs.

Well, up to a point. He was born in Cape Town to a South African family of English descent. He grew up and was educated in South Africa and played for South Africa at both under-15 and under-19 level.
Whilst I largely go along with the comments about the lack of diversity in the U19 World Cup, it's worth saying that ethnic diversity isn't always obvious. For example, I have no idea whether there were any Tamils playing for Sri Lanka. And diversity as a whole encompasses more than ethnicity, including matters such as creed/religion and sexual orientation. Age diversity obviously doesn't apply to an under-19 tournament (presuming that there was some checking of birth certificates, which hasn't always happened in the past).
I hope that everyone can go along with this because Exiled Bear put in a huge amount of work to get this Forum up and running and then to keep it going. Compared with that, the annoyance caused by the sight of the occasional "dodgy" post is surely something that we can cope with.
I also wonder whether appointing two South Africans (albeit one who played his heart out for England) might run counter to the desire and need for diversity. But then again, Michael Vaughan got into trouble for allegedly saying "there's too many of you" and I guess that applies equally to any race.
So it should just be a case of "best man for the job" - or woman, of course, though the shortlist seems to be all male.
I don't agree that the "very young" defence implies that racism, sexism, homophobia, etc etc are merely a rite of passage that every young man goes through and comes out the other side. What it does imply is that there are some young people who, because of their upbringing, take on board beliefs and assumptions that they later, once exposed to other influences, reject.
I think there are three levels of regret. One is "I regret being found out." Two is "I regret that I hold certain beliefs that I can no longer express without getting into trouble." Three is "I regret that in my youth I held and expressed views that I no longer hold."
I have no idea which type of regret Alex Davies is truly feeling, though I obviously hope it is type three.
I agree that it's annoying. But as Exiled Bear said a few days ago, all he can do is delete and block them when it happens - unless anyone has other suggestions as to what can be done.
To be fair, the offending tweets were done a long time ago and he was quite young. But to say things that are racist, sexist, disablist, homophobic and offensive in a few other non-specified ways takes some doing.

It was known that he was under investigation when he joined Warwickshire so I don't think we can complain about the one match ban.
"M'lud, I ask for leniency on behalf of my client. Apart from being racist, sexist, disablist, homophobic and offensive in a few other ways, his tweets were perfectly innocent. And there were only a mere 17 of them."
Guilty as charged. One match ban.
....or maybe just a runner-up. I was surprised that he only got to bowl 4 overs in the Final.
Anyway, still an amazing prospect. All we need now is for Sir Garfield, in one of his friendly chats, to persuade him that he, too, can be a three-in-one bowler - opening with lively left arm pace, then switching to orthodox finger spin or wrist spin as needed. But maybe Sir Garry was a one-off.
Yes an interesting article. By tomorrow, he could be a World Cup winner.
Step forward Tony Frost - or maybe not.
An interesting read - and, as a non-accountant, I even understood most of it!
Yes, sad to see him go but his last day in first-class cricket was a memorable one. The slip catch he took to dismiss Tom Lammonby was a crucial moment in the Somerset innings - a wicket just before lunch.
It may be just me but I couldn't get the link to work.
Weather permitting, I never say no to a visit to Taunton. No doubt Somerset will be looking for early revenge for that end-of-season defeat.
I agree that I think that in the long run he will go back to a more "hands-on" role.
By the way, he is the guest speaker at the Cricket Society Midlands Branch February meeting at Edgbaston - 22nd at 8.00 pm.
