...and the last batter to carry his bat for the Bears through a completed innings was ...?
(asking because I genuinely don't know)
Paul Edwards' report is very much about Dom Sibley:
https://www.espncricinfo.com/series/county-championship-division-one-2022-1297650/lancashire-vs-warwickshire-19th-match-1297701/match-report
Regarding Will Rhodes, I think he is an excellent leader; and we know he has the ability with both bat and ball. So I would be reluctant to think that he might have to be dropped.
Having said that, I am reminded that, during the 1994 "treble" season, Dermot Reeve was dropped from the four day side for the last part of the season and Tim Munton took over.
Well done to Dom Sibley. All that hard work on his technique is paying off.
The official version is that he needed more game time before coming back next week.
If nothing else, it defers the issue of whether McAndrew would get in on merit ahead of Miles and Norwell.
Is Matt Lamb injured?
It's good news for the Bears that neither Mahmood (injured) nor Anderson (rested) is in the Lancs squad, though it messes up the preview I've just written.
Depending on the nature of the problem, that could be areal tragedy for him.
I guess it's too soon to say to McAndrew: "Remind me, is there any restriction on how soon you can use your return flight ticket?"
But, as has been pointed out in relation to last year's overseas 'stars', if they aren't performing, they are not only letting down the team but also denying chances to talented young players in the squad.
If he's fit again, Norwell has to come in for sure. And we just have to hope that OH-D stays fully fit or the bowling attack will really be in trouble.
I sent Harry some notes about Bears players so that he could feed it into his commentary and not seem too biased towards Somerset. I'm not sure how much he used but I thought it was good that he wanted to do justice to both sides.
Yes, he does say Northants in the interview on the Club site, so not the Lancs game.
Report in the Mail said: "He will .. look to come back versus Lancashire at Old Trafford in the first week of May."
So, fingers crossed!
Somerset had actually lost their last seven County Championship matches.
My Deep Extra Cover colleague Harry Everett, who has been commentating on the live feed, obviously enjoyed the change of fortunes:
https://deepextracover.com/2022/04/somerset-finally-break-their-losing-streak-beating-warwickshire-inside-3-days-at-taunton/
...and he only fell 92 short.
Follow on? You're not allowing for OH-D getting his maiden hundred, then?
Early days for McAndrew, though I agree that he's hardly a top name.
I see that Chemar Holder has only played one match for Barbados since his time with the Bears. He took 0-99 across two innings at about four an over.
Somerset put into bat.
Cricinfo is currently showing Warwickshire as playing with ten men; but I am assuming that they have missed McAndrew off the list.
Echoing the fact that the Bears' new Head of Media need not love cricket, it's interesting to note that the ECB ad for the new England white ball coach says that it is only desirable (but not essential) to have 'international and/or First Class/Domestic white ball coaching experience.'
One change to the squad - McAndrew in for Norwell:

Might Craig Miles get into the team ahead of Henry Brookes?
