"Oh I do like to be beside the seaside..", who is Ben Cliff, well we know about him now. Glad I don't go to too many away games.
'Winking Willies', well what you do in your own spare time in Scarb's is up to you. It'll go no further.
Apart from the result.
The "This is how we play.." scenario really pisses me off, yes great, it looks amazing but when you get into a winning position, say to yourself, "Right, all we have to do is knock it about and get to the target". All this macho bullshit nonsense about how good it looks whilst you are smashing bowlers all over the place, is fine for the 'Isn't it exciting, I really love football most of all but love my only days of cricket each year, the Test' brigade. But, England's refusal to adapt, cost them this latest Test and with it, the series, the last Ashes series and a series before that v New Zealand when Stokes declared in a 2-match series in the 2nd Test whilst 1-0 up, then made New Zealand follow on which was their best chance of winning.
Looks as though there was some great seaside weather as well.
I cannot see him becoming a Test player without having at least some time at the crease in CC games but because he has proved himself at the shorter formats, then he will no doubt carry on with that. The England Bigwigs had obviously seen him prosper before he played a Test and because he fits in with the 'Baz' way of playing, they took him into the Test side on a hunch and it looked alright in New Zealand but he looked exposed in the Oval Test and too many Bazballer's didn't get England over the line and this is the problem, too many of the same type of player and maybe England need a more solid player at 6 if Stokes isn't playing. At 301-3 England should have just seen it through but once Bethell was in, I was hoping he could just push it around but his need to go for 'Glory Shots' like he did in his recent CC game, cost him and maybe England. He needs to practice building a score or he will be another Jason Roy who never batted for more than 3 hours for Surrey as he could only play one way.
The 2010 was the semi-final where we beat Yorkshire, played Somerset in the final when Bell made that superb ton. I remember it because I looked around at the sparse crowd and realised that a Lord's final had stopped being an event like it used to be. It also started in the afternoon and went on till 8.30pm which was when the last train to Taunton left from what a Somerset fan told me, which he said put people off, especially older members who didn't fancy sitting there in the September cold.
It had no relevance on this series but lots of other things India did were pathetic and it just shows that the once genial players from that part of the world appear to be 'Play Acting' too much due to the power they have in world cricket since the ICC now bend over backwards to accommodate them in every way, a prime example, Jadeja insisting someone change their top on Saturday as it was putting him off despite the bloke sitting there all day. I always thought the sightscreen was what a batsman saw when a bowler was running in.
Don't like that word 'Entitled', it gets banded about too much, maybe correct in the old days of the 'Amateurs' but India just moan until they get their own way in most tournaments and their recent T20 WC win says all you need to know about a side who are 'Entitled', change of tournament start time, refusing to travel and wanting loads of time off between games. They got their own way and will continue if the weak ICC let them.
Poor Woaksey, had a feeling this morning that it would be close. I would much rather lose by 100 runs than this, especially against these pampered princes who will now be full of themselves. Thought 'The Wizard' might be there at the end to celebrate. Sometimes I hate this game, I have no problem if sides give it out mutually but India have crossed the line and have played 'Victim' and the UK media have sided with them. Is that the end of CW in an England shirt?
I am hoping that he isn't needed but I would feel better if he was in before Tongue just on the basis of staying there for whoever is at the other end.
I cannot see him playing in all 3 formats but I would think he could be told he can play if/when he feels he can give 100%. That might mean 2/3 of CC games and most of the T20. It would be great to see him play for us but I do think his best days in international cricket are behind him.
When on song, he was really good and that bowling attack on the day we won the CC in 2021 of Woakes, Norwell, Miles, Bresnan and Briggs were superb and his spell either side of tea on the last day was crucial.
It would be a terrible thing for him to have to go through more injury problems but I fear that this will spell the end of his Test career and it's a pity he might end up with 191 Test wickets, not far off the 200. I doubt he would be picked after this as at the age of 37 it might mean a backward step, despite Anderson being in his 40's when still playing. If this is indeed his last Test, it would be a shame if England didn't win seeing as the Indian team have behaved like the bunch of pampered Indian prince's they have now become. Today's antics are exactly the opposite of what Chris Woakes represents and even though England have some feisty players in their side, they would not get away with what India did today despite idiots like Vaughan enjoying all the stupid displays of bad behaviour trying to make out it's a good thing. So, if this is his last game, I would love England to chase down any target they need and give him a good send off.
What a great recruitment Barnard was. He is so consistent and really does have a good cricket brain and a cool head. Would captaincy ruin his form if the chance happened to come his way?
When I look at the statement that the ECB delivered about not being sure that The Hundread has attracted any new spectators, I am not sure why they thought that droves of new fans would be coming through the gates. Also, what would happen if new fans got used to the 'Blocks of 5' as opposed to overs, would they question why there are overs in other forms of the game. I really doubt that all the investors are going to make much from all these franchise sides and as we know, putting cricket on terrestrial tv is the best way of attracting new fans to the game, without getting people interested this way, I cannot see that we will see loads of children rushing to the nearest cricket club (If they haven't folded already) to play if they are not playing in school which is very doubtful.
Well, a 3 then a 4. well done.
Come on Ed, a nice crisp 4.
Watched some of it online and he has looked really good. A great knock and he gets a CC ton before Mousley, Smith and Bethell.
3 hundreds and an 86, so surely that means it's good for batting but scoreboard pressure, etc. We aren't going to win this one so no need for Davies to try and score off every ball, just try and bat and bat and bat......
