One change to the squad - McAndrew in for Norwell:

Might Craig Miles get into the team ahead of Henry Brookes?

I thought Miles was unlucky not to start against Essex. Might it be McAndrew v Brookes for the last place?
I would be surprised if McAndrew doesn’t play given the effort that has been made to get him over here.
Somerset put into bat.
Cricinfo is currently showing Warwickshire as playing with ten men; but I am assuming that they have missed McAndrew off the list.

Yep, McAndrew is playing. Play-Cricket Live Scores have him down at No. 7, but I can't believe he'll actually be batting above Burgess. He opened the bowling with OHD, but went for 18 runs in his first 4 overs (OHD - 10 runs off 7 overs !). Rhodes and Miles now on.

Not the best bowling so far. A bit expensive on an overcast day. A good decision to field first?
It's been Mrs Miggins Pie Shop so far this morning. A couple of wickets before lunch would be tremendously helpful.
I’m sure it doesn’t help he’s just got off a plane, new conditions etc.
But how is it that there’s Abbas, Abbot, Afridi, Amir, Ali, Rauf, Paterson, Pattinson, Siddle, Henry and others all signed as overseas seam bowlers, we’ve ended uk with Nathan McAndrew? He very well prove me wrong, but it’s not a great start.
Farbrace seems to have a serious issue in terms of getting in consistent top quality overseas signings in red ball. 2 years in a row now he’s missed, despite a number of big international stars being willing to come play.
Currently watching the game from Maldives..dedication there!
Think I'll just check for score later, the half hour I've watched hasn't been great to say the least!
Way too early to judge McAndrew, when did he arrive ? He doesn't look the type of bowler we'd need to rush into the squad
Very early days of course but my first impression of McAndrew is that he's more of what we've already got. Let's hope they all have a much better second session.
157/1. Batsmen coping easily. Really missing Norwell, not to mention Woakes and Stone.
Certainly seems to have been an interesting decision to field first.
This is a bollocking.
Not many sides really bowl first at Taunton so Rhodes must have been convinced about something. I think we would do well to win it from here as 400-500 looks a possibility.
McAndrew shouldn't have been selected for this game. Too early. I must admit I'd never heard of him. Maybe it's early days, but a worrying decision as the overseas signing. Perhaps Brookes should've played?
On McAndrew I believe he arrived at Edgbaston on the second day of the Essex match. So in the country just under a week.
I thought he was supposed to be a bit quicker, bowl a heavy ball, get some bounce, a bit like Norwell. But we’ll see how he pans out.
What doesn’t change is that in terms of available players, no way do I believe that he was the best possible bowler the club could acquire for the overseas position. I listed the calibre of players in an earlier comment, so I’d love to know want Farbrace was doing when all those other bowlers were signing deals elsewhere.
Yeah. It's hard to think much further than money to be honest. Weirdly, bowling is now our issue and especially if Stone and Woakes are missing. The rest of the attack is right arm and not express so a left arm quick would have been great - this was obvious from the end of last year. Shaheen Afridi was available and keen on the UK - but ot looks like we could never get near him.

It’s hard to tell from the live stream, and I only saw him bowl one over, but McAndrew did seem to be quicker than most or all of our other bowlers. Seemed similar to Norwell in terms of style. Would be interested to see what those at the ground thought though.
We were second best today. The pitch did look a bit green at the start but if there was any help to be had for the bowlers, we didn't find it. Yes, it's early and no doubt he will have better days but McAndrew looked underwhelming. Quickish but not express - I would say Norwell is quicker. Oddly, McAndrew seemed to be getting significantly less bounce out of the pitch than OHD and Miles. He's not particularly tall for a seam bowler (about the same as Will Rhodes) and his shoulder comes through quite low when he bowls so perhaps that is a feature of his style. Whether that helps or not remains to be seen.
From a spectator point of view, I have to say that Renshaw is a good watch when he gets going. He scores quickly, all round the wicket, without resorting to slogging. A good overseas signing.
