Well this is pretty abject batting.
I’m glad he has signed, it will be interesting to see how he gets on with the red ball. So far he has adjusted very quickly to each format. We seem to be putting together a highly promising young squad which if given time could develop into a competitive unit.
I would slightly disagree that he owes us anything, we haven’t exactly spent money developing him through the ranks.
I certainly enjoyed the game yesterday, the match ebbed and flowed as a good game of cricket should. That's the beauty of the 50 over format, there is time for the match to swing between both sides.
When we needed 100 with Lamb and Bethell at the crease I have to admit I wasn't confident but they played the situation brilliantly. Such a shame they were unable to see it over the line.
As has been said the youngsters will certainly have benefitted from the experience and some of the more established lads have been able to gain some form and confidence.
I'd also like to point out that there was a good number of youngsters at the ground, it's almost as if dad's (and mums) want to take their kids to games of cricket in the summer, if only the ECB would sort the schedule out and invest in proper advertisement then the 16.4 nonsense would not have been needed.
Whilst Bresnan may not be the player he once was, his experience around the squad will be invaluable to what is a very inexperienced group.
It should also be remembered that without him we would not have beaten Nottingham earlier in the season which you could argue turned around our season in the red ball format.
I would say he has been a successful signing, however standards do need to be maintained so I hope the can make a few more important knocks for us.
Bizarrely I haven’t actually seen any popcorn or Hula Hoops for that matter.
I've been in the Tom Dollery Lounge for two of the 16.4 games, and I've not seen any bad behaviour. I would say that there were non members in the lounge as well as it was not a Warwickshire match. In fact the atmosphere was very good with all ages enjoying the matches.
I wonder whether the Wyatt lounge gets more 'rowdy' due to the more easily accessed bar from the sewing in front?
An interesting email nonetheless.
I thought our opening bowlers did a great job even with their lack of experience. Bullpit looked a handful with his left arm and Johal seemed to have a good action.
It was good sensible batting too from the four with half centuries. It actually felt like a good old fashioned game of cricket without any of the histrionics currently being seen with the 16.4 competition.
It’s not really a surprise that spectators have been low in number, it’s been a weird season to get into and the team has been struggling at various times. With this being seen as a development competition not everyone is interested in watching reserve team players.
However, looking around there was a good mix of people in attendance who enjoyed a comprehensive Bears victory.
The stream isn’t working and Pollock is already out.
I was intending to travel in to watch today, weather looks a bit pants though.
Nothing from the club about playing conditions from what I can see. BBC reporting a delay though.
Pollock is always capable of a big score, the problem being there isn’t the consistency to follow it up.
Always pleased when players, and the team, perform.
I attended tonight and it was quite an unusual feeling. Having no empathy for either team and watching without really caring who won was a tad unsettling.
As a match for the neutrals, of which I guess I was one, it was quite good fun to watch. Seeing Amir bowl consecutive no balls was quite funny but I was disappointed I didn’t get to see Tahir and his wicket celebrations.
I was very pleased to see Benjamin score and play a decisive part, also to hear some locals calling out ‘you bears’. I dont suppose the majority of those there would have noticed but the Warwickshire flag was flying throughout which was pleasing.
Overall the ECB and the broadcasters will have been pleased with tonight.
I however don’t think I saw anything I wouldn’t have seen in a T20 blast match, the ‘big names’ did not stand out as being on another level in my view. The music and fanfare is not my cup of tea, but we have it in T20 so it’s not really a big deal and I just accept it for what it is.
Tonight did nothing to dissuade me from thinking this competition is totally unnecessary and that a few tweaks to the T20 Blast could have saved quite a few million pounds and not alienated the existing fan base .
Properly advertised, supported by the ECB with England contracted players made available (it was a shame not to see Chris Woakes again who I believe is injured) and big name oversees players featured the ECB had a ready made competition ripe for development. But that’s an argument which has been made many times and is now obsolete.
Sorry for the long post.
It’s a bit harsh on Derbyshire, they did manage to field a squad yesterday.
This is the trouble that counties are going to face, especially the smaller ones. Small squads faced with injuries with key players poached by the 16.4, together with self isolation due to COViD I’m surprised more counties haven’t been forced to forfeit.
Good point, I had forgotten about the County 11 v India.
Is there anywhere online with details of all our injuries? I’m not sure if I’ve missed an official club release along the way.
Glamorgan have certainly put a more experienced side out than we have.
Looking around the country in fact it appears we are approaching the competition differently to most.
My thoughts exactly, Burgess has seemed to be really growing into his role and has made some fantastic catches and stumping a this year.
Perhaps he is coming as a batsmen for the red ball games and wicket keeper in the T20?
A good signing but a bit strange as well.
I feared the worst when the openers failed (again). It was good to see Hain regain some form and Brathwaite bat patiently until the final couple of overs.
Always satisfying to win the derby!
I do wonder why Rhodes doesn’t bowl himself that much, he always seems to take wickets.
My word, we really cannot bat can we!?
Malan looked in good touch, it was so disappointing for him to fall when he did and how he did.
I’m struggling with Hain at the moment, I know he has been pretty consistent and that is not something we can say about most of our batsmen. But, 30 in 100 balls just heaped the pressure on. I really think he needs to develop an out ball where he can keep the score ticking along even without the big shots. He has the talent and the experience we just need him to deliver that little bit more.
Malan out for 31, very frustrating as he was looking good and quite fluent. 108-2 and looking increasingly bogged down although Yates has just got his 50.
Pathetic
