Rhodes didn't look too happy being given out caught behind
Thanks for that Highveld. However, it did look a strange call. Previous ball had been called a no-ball. This one just went round the leg side just wide of the batsman's legs!. A brief conversation took place between bowler and umpire! I suppose it may have been called as being deliberate - given Warks position would hardly be a defensive measure.
Just seen wide given against Yadav - just went down leg side. Are one-day wides now being given in red ball games?
So after a blank weekend the four day game gets under way this Monday morning.
Terry reading through the job description I think he/she needs higher qualifications than that you describe!!!!!!!!!!
Totally agree. When I look at the fixture list and the reduced number of CC games I am so glad I relinguished my membership a few years ago. Sadly there is nothing to entice me back. Having virtually no cricket to watch in the whole of August is a disgrace.
Can you imagine the EPL deciding the number of fixtures will be reduced to 32 but still have 20 teams. Then in the middle of the season close down while a handful of franchised teams are fowmed to play game of 31 minutes each way without goalkeepers for there are loads of goals (like loads of 6's in the 16.4)
On the other hand Paul why should the team suffer the loss of those points because they never had the chance to bat out a draw because it rained? Perhaps in a draw the side on top should get more points than the one likely to have lost. Could be times when it could be tricky working out which is which
There might be 19000 at the 16.4 game but how many tickets were actually sold?
As for a stadium with a roof - how high would the roof need to be or would it be if it hit the roof then to be out the fielder would have to catch the ball one handed!!!
Absolutely right in the short term counties would be financially better off if there was only white ball competitions. However, this would eventually lead to the decline in a successful test team which provides a considerable income for the game.
If the majority of cricketers were recalled from their summer holidays then there would be ample time to play 2 CC games which would result in a more meaningful competition whereby every team plays each other home and away.
Would it be possible those in the 16.4 could also turn out for their county bearing in mind the 16.4 only lasts for 2 hours.
What planet are they on? So many flaws in the suggestion. Surely they understand cricket is not just about high scoring, hitting sixes. Or perhaps they don't
I posted many years ago on this forum's predessessor that cricketers need to realise they, like footballers, are in the entertainment business and as such should be performing at times that are attractive to the customer. You do not hear of football not being played at weekends or matches being arranged for an afternoon mid-week! Cricket should be played EVERY weekend and EVERY public holiday and in the heaight of the summer games should go on to 8 at night.
Very interesting debates between you all with very good points made. Given that the 16.4 has attracted crowds by massive advertising and giving away freebies and, I dare say, loads of free tickets I wonder what would happen if counties did something similar.
During the August school holidays have at least one CC where kids came in for free and accompanying adults come in at half price. All this backed up with massive publicity with freebies for the kids and fast food outlets for them. Would it work?
If it's only about getting people throught he turnstyles then you might as well play rounders or table tennis because in my opinion The Hundread is an abonimation of cricket from what I have seen on TV and read about it, I'm with Andy - why would anyone not previously interested in cricket suddenlt turn up for this.
Without looking too closely at fixtures I can't understand why there are gaps of up to a week between one day games whether that be T20 or RLC. A CC game is played over 4 consecutive days of 96 overs compared to 40 and 100. The Hundread (I like that) is 33.2 (or is it 32.8?).
Definitely they need to look back to the 70s and earlier and also look at how baseball is played in US
Wait for the viewing figures to go down
Game was "won" when the 8th wicket went down. With 2 overs to go the game was lost! A cracking finish.
Regretable developement indeed. However, Lancs administrators and the administrators at all the other counties need to realise and accept that 99% of members and supporters who have signed the petition have done so peacefully and sincerely because of their concern and love of the game. Just because of a few undesireablesdoes not give them the right to dismiss the protest in its entirety.
Like it Paul
I like the idea of calling THAT game 16.4
