Confusing, that sums up a lot of the team selection this season.
A strong side v Cheshire so let us hope we are taking this competition seriously. After all, once it starts properly on 2nd August it is a trophy and a cup final so we should do so.
As if we haven't lost enough players over the last few season's, not including Lamb, well isn't that a statement. If he decides he wants to go elsewhere then our management will only have themselves to blame in a season where they have covered themselves in anything but glory.
Sorry to see him go as he was dynamic in T20 and a good fielder. We have Mr Ali returning so it could be seen as a straight swap. Just hope we pick a better overseas player for that competition.
OHD, Burgess and Hain have been superb but so many others have had poorer seasons than last. Yates has gone downhill as have Briggs and Miles and not seeing much of Norwell hasn't helped. Add in some strange decisions at the toss and some equally strange team selections and you have a season that we all want to forget.
Massively disappointing to lose from the position of last night when most of us might have been expecting a declaration at some point. But when the 2 overnight players, well set, get out too early then it does expose the rest. We have come up against some dreadful umpiring in other games and it does make a difference as we have no idea what Hain might have done once he reached his ton and in a game where we looked good overnight it is a huge blow as another 60-80 runs would have leant a different approach from Surrey. The Somerset and Gloucestershire games take on huge significance as we need points. How have we reached such depths when poor sides like Northamptonshire are above us.
Annoyingly, the bad light came when we were in the driving seat and now it might cost us in time lost tomorrow. Best day for us in CC cricket for a long time.
This is what we want, dig in and set 'em a big 'un.
Hated being behind by so much but then again, we could have been behind by about 30 and gone in a after a tricky 11-12 overs and been 20-2.
mad, you point about "hiding cricket behind a paywall..." is so true. That 3-part series that Andrew Flintoff did about getting kids from poorer backgrounds, brought a few good points up. Initially all the kids bar about 3 thought it was a sport played by posh kids and once they got to know more about it and how to play it, they were surprised by how much they enjoyed it. That's is all it needs, the exposure instead of just not bothering and instead trying to just go on year after year telling kids that Football is the only thing that matters.
Just as another partnership builds, we lose wicket number 6.
Me as well, it make sense if you love cricket.
To be fair, we beat Derbyshire away but never got a chance at home with loads of rain and didn't get beyond 4 overs of trying to chase about 215. As for the game at Worcester which I watched, the pitch was dead and doubt even an extra day would have produced a result. The bowling was good but we did have a few bad days batting.
18 CC matches tells it's own story and that is about 3 games a year and at some stage it was either retirement or choose another place to play. We will see if he can tag a few CC appearances together for Notts but I somehow doubt it.
Whatever team we put out, any side would be happy to play us but every member of that side who play Surrey must tell themselves that this where they get their form back and start earning their money or else 2nd division cricket will be waiting for them. It's not always about playing badly for 4 days, it's getting ourselves into good positions and then throwing it away that is really annoying.
I think Notts will struggle to get a full season of games out of him. He might play T20 and maybe a few 50-over games but CC appearances could be limited. Ever since we signed him he has not strung that many CC games together.
It wouldn't be such a shock seeing as we have a history of letting bowlers go, Wright and Barker to name 2 and they haven't done much since, have they.....Oh! Wait a minute..
Inept and just completely incompetent. So glad I did not waste petrol money on that performance. Kent must be wondering why they batted on so long and any rain about didn't deserve to get us out of that. If a meeting isn't held by the management after this then they deserve to just pack their bags and go.
Henry is a good bowler but this bloke Saini took 5 in the first innings and hardly seemed to bowl that many good balls, a mixture of no-balls, innocuous bouncers and 4 balls. I think with his ordinary record, it is our batsmen making him look good, we appear to have done plenty of that this season. Pity we didn't think along the same lines. I suppose to be fair, at the beginning of the season, the management saw Woakes, Stone, OHD, Norwell, Miles and McAndrew and wondered who they would have to leave out. They wouldn't have known about injuries. Having said that, the batting is woeful and we are even making this Quinn look like a demon.
If only the management came on this site, they would see what we all think of the way our team are performing. We don't want to criticise but it is getting to be beyond a joke if the same mistakes are being made over and over again. If we, without any qualifications in coaching (I haven't in any form, perhaps some on here have) can see how players are getting out or bowlers throwing pies, then what are the men with the certificates doing? No good suddenly realising what is wrong if we are stuck at the bottom of the table. It isn't just on the field, who had the final say on overseas players in both CC and T20? Who put Benjamin at 3 and why is Danny Briggs in T20 coming in after everyone else - This is the man who hit a very quick 50 in last years deciding CC game when we needed to score a certain amount of runs, in the most pressurised situation he has ever been in. Would love to get a message to the lot of them, "Dear management, on our site we might not have all the solutions but at least we can see the problems which you seem to be missing".
