The article does fail to mention Yorkshire, Lancashire, Surrey and Nottinghamshire (Twice) as sides who won the title and then got relegated the very next season.
If Yorkshire lose, they will have a total of 138 points so all we need is a 19 points victory so no need for us to use up time trying to get to 400 unless it's very, very quickly. A win will do from here even if we lost our last 6 wickets for 0 runs and won.
Davies, that one ball sums up his season really. I do hope that Robinson has a good look at that dismissal and also himself for picking the bloke constantly in the face of so many of us here who wondered how it could keep happening time and time and time and time again.
Ditto, BristolBear. We must be the worst county for picking overseas players. We got 2 good 'uns for the last 3 matches and they have played 3 times between them. We'd have been better off asking Kallicharran or Donald if they still had some kit and saying, "Fancy a game lads, you couldn't do worse than what we have chosen since Mr Patel retired".
I know exactly what you mean. It kills me to see us play this badly and this is the time when I have to ask myself if it is worth having a membership as the people who pick our side do not seem to want to change things if they go wrong. Add to this, the fact that none of us know what format we will have for 2024-25 seasons, I am unsure if I would commit to buying a 3-year membership knowing that I could pay more for those 2 seasons and not knowing how many days I could watch. I will definitely get a membership for next season but if Strauss gets his way then I might have to think about breaking my 34 year membership which would seem strange to me. It will be interesting to see if Moeen Ali plays for us in the CC. If he keeps up with his "I have now changed my mind and want to play Tests again", then he has to play in the CC where his bowling record is not good and he seems reluctant to have a bowl.
Yes, 'Meh' sums it up. Stupid team selection and whatever team is selected, they seem to throw away so many good positions. Injuries haven't helped but you wonder if having a full-strength side would make a difference. The side from 2016-17 were full of 'Great' Warwickshire players and still we struggled during that period. I think we will bounce back straight away and my tone means I have given up already but once we are down, we need a decent selection committee when it comes to actually picking a side.
Unfortunately when a player is not in the team and the club (All clubs) do not wish to give a reason, the PR oppo's who are employed, tell all players to come out with the same old line if spectators should ask about a certain player. I remember when Rikki Clarke was not playing in one game v Durham in CC, a few spectators around the ground were asking a few of the staff "Where's Rikki", "Why is Clarke not playing", every single one of them at some stage said "He is not available for selection", which we all know was short for, "He did something wrong and we do not want to tell anyone what it was".
Just as I have said so many times on these pages, when the opposition are crap, we always play to their level of mediocrity and make a hash of things. Total and utter rubbish.
Are we trying to get a day off and make a mess of this when we should just simply try and occupy the crease for a day which will probably see us win.
And what idiot said Hampshire would be expected to win - I will now look in the mirror for an answer. That was a shock, 57 all out.
Bonus point in the bag, Kent have none and I hope they are still recovering from a good celebration on Saturday night. If we can get another point or dare I hope we get to 300, I think it will be within the 110 overs and it could make a big difference and also mean we are right in this game.
Agree with meashambear, we make sides who appear to be worse than us, look better by lowering our selves to the level they have been playing, for most of the season. We must get more out of this game than Kent who I would expect to lose to Hampshire and we are without a full attack and whilst we are on the subject, where is Siraj. The point about Singh-Dale, Kent had a bowler at Edgbaston when we lost in July, called Saini who did exactly the same, bowled innocuous bouncers that only the keeper could get to and a load of 4 balls as well as wide deliveries but ended up with a 5-for in the first innings. We cannot afford to mess this up.
I would doubt Burgess has been dropped, it must be an injury of sorts. Surely after some of the strangest teams we have seen picked this season, the selection committee cannot surely do something more to piss us all off.
You do have to wonder with someone like Neil Mallender though, how he gave a few stinkers, he played the game for ages and yet we have seen some awful decisions and yet because of Covid, the way Tests had to be played with home umpires threw up some thought of potentially poor games on the horizon and yet out of all that came Michael Gough, now one of the best and most respected umpires in the world having had a career much shorter than people like Mallender and not as successful and yet he is now at the top of his game as an official.
Don't really want him back as he just appeared to want a bigger and bigger job and his handling of the 2014 T20 world cup when he continued to veto the picking of Jade Dernbach (14 runs per over) was nothing short of stupid and ridiculous. It is not always a good idea to go back but for a 3rd time, no thanks.
Because Somerset will still be ahead of us even with a draw, they will not give us a sniff so I would expect them to bat on to get a 350 lead or more as the thought of losing for them would be almost certain relegation. Just goes to show that all those people were right a few years ago that Somerset and their 'Make it turn from ball 1' pitches were their best way of trying to win the title. As soon as Leach became an England regular and Bess went to Yorkshire, they have struggled even though I know this is an away game for them.
If it does there is only 1 winner. I have my suit ready and will shortly iron my shirt and get out my best tie.
Somerset seem to be making sure they don't lose and at this rate might be batting into tomorrow.
Don't like to think of us as a yo yo side seeing as Hampshire have been down a division and would have been relegated in 2016 but for Durham's woes and remain a very lucky county (As the T20 final showed) and it's not that long ago that Somerset were always a stone's throw away from the title, Notts are as much a yo yo side as anyone but I do see your point in terms of where both side are now and 2 divisions is what I think most players/counties have always said they preferred. It just goes to show how bad this whole scenario is and any county who are considered a 'Feeder' will be extremely insulted. I can imagine Leicestershire and Derbyshire thinking, "Well haven't we been a feeder county for Nottinghamshire since they nicked most of our good players for the last 15 years".
OHD was leaving all the scoring to Siraj who seemed to have more idea about how to do it, so I do not blame the tactics seeing as there were plenty of overs left to get a batting point. When I have seen him over the years, OHD has got out most of the time very early when trying to play attacking shots.
