If this Surrey side are the best in the country, then perhaps the CC is not that good. Take Roach out of the attack and they look very ordinary. Apart from plenty of dodgy decisions that went their way when we played them at The Oval last season, I do wonder how these strutters managed to win the title. We had the usual whooping and jumping about when they took wickets as we had in the Dernbach sides of old but they look nowt special but it doesn't look like us who will dislodge them. Poor bowling this morning, lower order batsmen who are throwing the bat, love 'length' bowling and cannot usually cope with yorkers but yet again as against Kent, we never saw any.

Yes Gerryshedd, Kent refused to play us that season (1911) and then had the nerve to complain when they lost out to us. Their snobbish attitude in thinking we were inferior to them must have hurt when they got their runners-up medals.

I remember Hampshire fans and their gloating when they beat us in 2 finals, 2005 and 2012 at Lord's. They were awful and if Kent can't stop having a whinge, then they should take a look at their batting which was poor and the fact that they barely created a chance whilst bowling. They didn't deserve to get a draw, the weather took 4 sessions out of the game to give them a hand. As for the celebrations, CC games are hard to win, take it easy for a session and it can just get away from you and at this time of the season if you can escape the weather, then you are lucky so why not jump about a little and enjoy a fine win, it was being frustrated at taking 4 hours to get the last 3 wickets, that made a few of the players leap about in relief.

Cannot believe Kent were 7 down at 2.15 and I had visions of a 3pm-3.15pm cup of tea at home. No chance, although I love a dramatic finish which does seem to make all the waiting worthwhile, I do not like sitting in the cold watching bowlers who seldom try a yorker against numbers 9 and 10 and keep bowling too wide of off stump so that they can leave the ball and the bowler has wasted his energy. Why didn't Rhodes have a bowl and Woakes bowled a lot of useless bouncers that sailed over the batsmen's head when it was obvious after 4-5 of these that they were not going to even look to hook. If this game had escaped us with Kent 8 or 9 down, then I would have been furious after we had the game won well before lunch. Having said that, to lose 1/3 of the game to rain and still win, was amazing and we look a good side so we must keep this standard going.

Exiled Bear, you have nothing to apologise for, this site must take time and effort to keep going while the rest of us reap the benefits whilst we type away with our opinions/rants. Much thanks to you as no one else would listen to our ramblings about the club we love.

Yes, less than 9 days playing time for 3 Tests, that is awful. Bet no one in India is buying Test tickets for all 5 days.

Strange sort of move but if he does play, he can be lethal. It is though, a big risk if he is to be the new bowling coach.

No of course not but I do often think of that brilliant side we had between 2011-2017 and yet we didn't win as much as we should have and only 1 title and 2 runners-up places. I just wonder how we would have played with 2 world-class batsmen in the side.

Do not want our players playing for England. Woakes got picked for tours and hardly played and was in squads for home Tests then got released but was too late to then play in the CC game that was going on at the time. He missed countless games for us whilst barely playing for England and that weakened us. Also, England have a habit of returning our players, injured or knackered. Having Sam out during an English Summer would weaken our batting and although I would love him to succeed at international level, I would like a successful England side but without nicking any more Warwickshire players. We might have won a few more titles over the years perhaps in 2011 and 2014 with Trott and Bell in the side.

A capped player will have been recognised as having made significant contributions to the team enough to be considered in the pecking order for first team selection. It is to say you have reached a certain standard and of course it comes iwht more money and I would think, a sponsored car.

Great article and as for no cap for Norwell, is that yet another bad move by the management this season. You would have thought his tireless work last season would have given him a cap.

We have seldom produced many players actually born within the county of Warwickshire in the last 40 years and it seems that when we do produce one, we let him go and no reason is given. Perhaps once Lamb has left, it would be interesting to hear what he says on the subject. CMJ once described Warwickshire as "A league of Nations..." due to its wide range of players from around the world throughout the decades.

I said in general that the club had no idea how to handle players, not just Barker - Chopra comes to mind, his form was fine but they let him hang on at the club, not getting any games including getting 97 in a T20 game and never playing another game in that format again and letting players go like they did with Wright when he appeared to still be a good bowler also comes to mind. Now they have done it with Lamb who didn't seem to want to go either.

I did not suggest he was badly treated at all, just that the rumours were rife about him going but to have it finally sorted whilst there was an important game going on didn't show the club in a good light.

GerryShedd, it's not so much a case of 'Club bashing' but we have seen some players treated really badly over the years and this season is not much different. The club appear to not realise that they may be sportsmen but they are human and need to be treated as such and for some, this may be the only way they might ever have of earning a decent living.

Because the club had no idea how to handle players then, Ooo, wait a minute..... From what I heard at lunchtime during his final appearance v Kent, he still had no idea if he was staying or going. If you consider that during the same game, we lost Wright and the retirement of Trott, didn't the so-called management think that losing 3 players like that was all a bit of a talent drain in one go - Obviously not.

No one on here ever said Lamb would solve any batting problems but we all expressed an opinion on why a bloke averaging 48 would be dropped when others got nowhere near that average and stayed in the side. You might think he is 'Average' but now we will never know if he could have had a good finish to the season and really made a difference. It is only your opinion that the 3 batsmen you mentioned have 'Talent in abundance' and doesn't mean they will flourish. I would rather have a batsman who can score runs whilst not looking anything special to watch rather than great talents who make pretty 20's and 30's. Either way, it was a strange selection policy that kept leaving Lamb out and it's not as if we are settled in the batting department so it becomes even more ridiculous every time you saw others failing time and time again.

I see Jos Buttler has had a say on the reduction of CC matches and seems to think it will be beneficial - Very strange for someone like him to have an opinion when he has hardly played a single CC game in 3 years and hasn't learnt how to bat at first-class level at all a bit like Jason Roy. He should keep it shut as none of this will ever affect him unless he has suddenly learnt how to bat for more than a day.

I have just had a read of it and can understand the furore that Yorkshire fans have shown. Woakes played the last 2 CC games for us last season and it did make a difference even though we know he had hardly played much all season anyway. Did Root think that the chances of Yorkshire going down were slim because the results had to go against them and thought a Gloucestershire win and a Warwickshire win were not possible. Who knows, but it sounds like it wasn't his choice anyway but the ECB are undermining the CC and the game itself and after this, you really cannot take any international players seriously when moan about being tired and needing more rest. I'm sure if Root had pleaded to play in such an important game, the ECB might have changed their minds but it probably never entered Root's head.

The idea of losing Lamb is totally insane if it wasn't for the FACT that we had someone like Davies who has been there just 1 season and has played badly. It isn't just that Davies has had no form, it's the way he has been dismissed. If he got a few absolute 'Snorters' or unplayable deliveries I could have some sympathy but he has played some of the most atrocious shots I have ever seen on a cricket field. Not just that, but he has played some of those shots AGAIN, the very next game and not surprisingly, WITH EXACTLY THE SAME RESULT. It must be heartbreaking for a local boy like Lamb to have to move on. I almost hope he plays for another county and makes runs against us so that the management here can hang their heads in shame.
