We've made a decent fist of it today. Obviously it was a bit easier as the ball got older and the bowlers have nearly 90 overs in them but Sibley, Hain and Rhodes have really dug in. Good work.
A fairly useless 29 from 30 by Davies. Pinned lbw on the crease, no foot movement at all.
I'm talking about the determination to stay in, to put away the flashes outside off stump, the aimless waft at a leg side delivery, to say to the bowlers 'you're going to have to get me out here, I'm not giving it away'. I've not see a lot of that from some of our batters this season. If they get a jaffa then fair enough but if any of them get out to a brainless shot I'll be fuming.
The other way to look at it is that our batters can bat for as long they like now. This is a golden opportunity for some of them to spend plenty of time in the middle and play themselves into form. It will be all about determination.
Struggling for positives here but at least they've brought the run rate down a bit and McAndrew has some more wickets under his belt.
If that's true then at least it'll show who the good bowlers are.
Not impressed this morning. Expensive, unthreatening, and samey. Too many extras as well.
Big plusses are Dom getting back into good form and McAndrew making an impact. Minus is Alex Davies; he's not a FC opener. I can see why they tried him but it's not working.
Right, we need some runs and so does Will. Come on Skip!
Well hats off to Nathan, he's come to the party this afternoon.
It makes even less sense when we know we're going to be without Stone and / or Woakes for the majority of FC matches.
I was hoping we might scramble to 350 but after losing those two quick wickets Dom and OHD did well to get us to 315. Still a bit short but could easily have been less than 300.
Poor old Will is really struggling for runs. Dom standing firm though.
Thigh strain, according to the Guardian.
That was bad. It reminded me of watching England over the winter. Apart from OHD no-one can be proud of their performance. Sam Hain got a couple of starts but didn't cash in either time. Yates and Rhodes are averaging 13 and 12 respectively, Sibley 22. Let's hope for a big improvement at Lancs.
Okay, anyone can have a bad day at the office but that's two in a row now. Davies needs to learn that 20 off 29 is not what is required at the top of the order. All that said, no doubt someone will perform miracles with the bat in our next dig.
I just looked him up on cricinfo and he doesn't even have a potted bio. I know the Aussies don't have many sides and play fewer FC fixtures but he's not far off 29 and this is only his 12th FC game.
Very early days of course but my first impression of McAndrew is that he's more of what we've already got. Let's hope they all have a much better second session.
It's been Mrs Miggins Pie Shop so far this morning. A couple of wickets before lunch would be tremendously helpful.
Great win against a strong team. Michael Burgess oustanding and all the bowlers contributed. We look well placed to defend our title.
I wish the commentators on the live feed were a bit more interesting.
