Pretty good effort today. Yates has been threatening a big score.
After Barnard went we could have easily slipped to 300 all out but having someone of Maxwell's class to come in at 7 is a game changer.
Another shift required from the bowlers tomorrow.
Lovely piece on Christopher Roger Woakes here: https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2023/jul/11/its-quite-emotional-chris-woakes-reaps-rewards-of-dedication-to-england
Hain is listed as playing. Lintott misses out.
I've had time to reflect in Thursdays disappointment and I can't add much to what's already been said.
A few reasons why it didn't go our way. Ithink we were too preoccupied with trying to hit the short boundary. We badly missed Briggs to add some control, they targeted Mousley and Maxwell to great effect. We need some quality white ball pace options and Hassan was a big miss. Having said that, I like Drakes and he did all that was asked with bat and ball (and more in the field).
I hope Drakes can be persuaded to be part of the ODC squad because he offers something different as a left armer, we haven't had that since Ronnie Barker left.
Fingers crossed we can have a good go in the ODC and have a day out at Trent Bridge in September.
To be honest I thought Glenn would be on his way after the T20, so fair play to him. Coach Robbo says he is a great team man and this shows real commitment. I'd like him to come back next summer and do the business in the T20.
Bess has gone on loan again. Back to Somerset this time. The lad just wants to play cricket.
Ethan Brookes has had to retire himself on 142 and at 238 without loss to dash up the motorway to cover the firsts tonight.
Must be a big game to get some words in the Mail

The good news is that we will have Lintott available. The One Day Cup is my favourite competition.

Do others agree with me that Davies should continue as captain and Moeen, if available, should replace Benjamin?
I doubt we will see Moeen unless we make it to finals day. Davies should keep the captaincy for the remainder of the competition, regardless. He has done really well.
Brookes seems to do OK bowling in the middle overs but I wouldn't trust him either in the powerplay or at the death. Fingers crossed we get Woakes back in Thursday and Brookes can carry the drinks.
Olly Stone makes his comeback from injury for Notts tonight.
Thanks. If Bess comes back then perhaps we are looking at a permanent arrangement.
I assumed Dom Bess would be retained for the T20 to replace Briggs. We still have plenty of spin options though. I hope OHD and Rhodes get a go.

That wasn't a name that I had expected but it may be a good signing:

A pity that they haven't quite spelt his dad's first name correctly - should surely be "Vasbert".
I like the fact he is a left armer to give the attack some variation. A good addition.
Hain will be gutted to miss out on Trent Bridge with his record there.
Briggs is a blow but hopefully we can keep Bess for the foreseeable.
Losing Hassan on top of the injuries is a concern. We have to bring in a quality replacement for the T20 if we are serious about doing well in the competition.
Excellent article on Dan's progress here: https://www.expressandstar.com/sport/cricket/2023/06/28/as-a-glittering-career-closed-dan-mousleys-was-just-beginning/

Do we know exactly when Hasans last game is?
I think he goes on July 2nd and we have Durham that day. It wouldn't surprise me if his last game is at Trent Bridge on Friday night.
Great win. Mousley is stellar player, a potential superstar.
My concern is how we replace Hassan and potentially Woakes in the knockouts. They both showed such quality tonight. Compared to the Pears pace bowlers who went around the park.
We will have to bring a bowler of international class in otherwise we are relying on Brookes. OHD should have a go for one of the spots.
