James Thomas has an excellent record in developing, and delivering, high level sports performance programs. He also played sport at a professional level, so will have an uderstanding of what the atheletes require.
Hopefully he will ensure that there are improvements on the analysis of potential signings, especially overseas players. We have had too many signed who were either unfit, not good enough or just using the club as a paid holiday. Many sports have shown that a datas driven approach is the way forward.
If the batting continues to fail due to poor shot selection, it will show that the fault is with the players and not the coaches.
Some here may be having to eat their words about Tony Frost's coaching ability.
The overseas signings were poor before Larsen, so that doesn't add up.
The club was used as a holiday camp by several overseas players, who didn't perform, or arrived injured so never played while taking the clubs money.
Indeed, of of that catagory was resigned for this season, after Larsen had left.
A major failing has been the poor quality and performance of the overseas signings. Who chose these players? did the club look at the entire market, or just what was on offer from a single agent.
Hopefully the signing of Latham and Webster shows a change of method is aquiring overseas players.
The hotel, should, provide a long term and sustainable income stream to help fund the club. As well as the higher yeild per ticket from improved hospitality sales, and of course, boosting the conference business which functions all year.
To defend Tony Frost, as none of us here have experienced his coaching, it is hard for us to truly judge if he is, or isn't, a good coach.
He could be the best coach in the world, but our players are totally uncoachable, or they just fail to apply what they worked on when in the middle.
Based on some of the dismissals over the past few seasons it seems a very credible explanation.
The Knighthead group have shown to be very good oeners for Birmingham City, and at their other sporting investments. There are very many worse potential owners for the Birmingham Franchise. Plus a change of colours to blue and white would be a great improvement.
Maybe not games at St Andrews at Knighthead Park, but if the competition is still running, games at the New "St Andrews", on the Birmingham Wheels site could be a possibility.
Actually surprised this has only just been announced, he had dropped out of the second team in the latter stages of last season, and played some games for SACA, which would not have happened if Warwickshire were going to invest in him with a new contract.
Webster is only available till the group stages of the T20.
Based on last season having 3 overseas wont be an issue, as Ali is just here for a holiday at the clubs expense.
Many players with less ability from Surrey, Middlesex and Essex had many chances with England.
Kai Smith is, probaby, the best keeper we currently have on the staff, especdially as we were told Davies had hand injuries so was unable to keep in four day games.
I'd suggest that we need to find another keeper, even if only for cover in case of injuries.
He played for K&D a few years ago, he seemed a very talented player and a good person.
Unlike some of our previous overseas signings, we can be sure he'll give 100% every time.
Dan Mousley is an example of a school giving a scholarship to get a talented sportman to represent the school.
Other counties have good links with the private schools in their area, who help with the development of young players, apart from Jacob Bethell and Ben Blakemore that doesn't seem to be the case at Warwickshire.
Possibly less time than it takes for the "urgent end of season review" to be published!
A first test 50 on debut, and making a good impression in the field. a very promising start to what is hopefully a long and successful test career.
Seems like a very good choice, and unlikely to be using us as a holiday camp, unlike some of our recent overseas signings.
He would be an excellent choice as captain, keeping Barnard as VC.
Losing Keith would be a major loss, hopefully he can be persuaded to take a part time advisory role.
It may be the entire coaching staff, or just a toxic individual or individuals who may be coaches or players.
It is concerning, and puzzling, that the only signing announced is a one year extention for a player who already had two years left on his contract, and will be well over 30 at the end of the original contract, and likely to be experiencing a decline in performance. Surely that is the wrong priority?
