Interesting to see how Woakes is managed this summer. I hope we will have him available for our second match which is still well over 2 weeks away.
Think he needs to find his groove early this summer as I hope he still has a big role to play. If past history is anything to go by, he will be sitting around wasting another summer
The Woakes dilemma is interesting. This is probably a big summer in terms for red ball future.
If there’s a fit Archer, Wood, Robinson, Stokes, Anderson, Broad, you have to wonder if he is a first choice. (Granted it’s a huge if).
So when he gets a chance he has to take it. Though he’s now competing with the likes of Mahmood, Curran, Overton, Chappell, Carse, and even now Fisher.
I think we may see a decent amount of him.
He's still first choice for the one day team and his red ball record in English conditions is fabulous. I don't think we'll see much of him from June onwards.
I see Chris Woakes has signed a two year extension to his contract. Hopefully we'll see him play for the Bears a bit more often!
Would love to see him play for us during a whole season, what a joy that would be. He was fine playing county cricket and as often happens, England get hold of him and he picks up more injuries that he did before he ever got noticed by the selectors.
So, with the disappointing news that Chris Woakes will miss the Northants game this week too, in my opinion it seems unlikely he'd be selected in the England squad for the first test against NZ with the likelihood of only one County game under his belt.
The worst thing for him would be selected and not play, but hopefully this year there will be more flexibility with unused players being able to return to their counties. I'm not sure if i'd rather seem him leading the line in the ODIs against the Netherlands anyway.
He's becoming increasingly injury prone.
I think his knee injury is pretty long standing and something that has to be carefully managed.
Chris Woakes still not fit. There is no timescale on his return from a knee problem according to Warwickshire. This isn't good news...... for England and The Bears.
Just got in and switched on the TV and Chris Woakes is doing some co commentary work for Sky. He mentioned he will be heading for a two's game as part of his rehab hopefully soon....

George Dobell reports that Chris has withdrawn from the rest of the second XI match after experiencing some discomfort in his knee:

It may be just a precaution; but it sounds very worrying to me, considering how long he's had the knee problem and the fact that it's taken him to the end of June to get on the field at all.
Let's hope that he's back in action soon.
Any update on Chris Woakes? It's not looking good the fact he's missed all first team matches so far this season.
He played a second team game about 10 days ago, got some good runs, but then had inflamation and pain after bowling just 9 overs.
From seeing other professional sportsmen in similar situations, it may be that the end of his career is very near. I do wonder if he has considered if he could continue playing just as a batsman, but that would take a major psycological adjustment having played as an all rounder all his cricketing life. Alternately, he may decide that it is better to retire from playing so that he still has the mobility to have a normal life with his young family.
Whatever he decides, I hope he's happy with the decision and is able to enjoy the next stage of his life and career.
You have reflected my thoughts entirely, Highveld, especially the hope that he is able to make the decisions that will be right for him.
So, after being out all season, Woakes will now undergo surgery on his knee. If it goes well he'll miss up to 6 weeks, so that's effectively it for the season. A big disappointment.
Let's hope that the surgery finally solves what has been a long-lasting problem and that he gets several more years of active cricket as a result. Good luck to him (and the surgeon!).
Great to see him back in the latest England T20 Squad for Pakistan & the World Cup. Had taken the radio silence as a bad sign since the operation, but seemingly he's raring to go.
Not sure if he mentioned anything during any of his Hundred commentary stints on the BBC as i tend to watch the Sky coverage.
