I think that makes the most sense. Johal and Bulpitt have got better as the competition has gone on. Bethell at 7 Bresnan at 8 and Miles at 9 sounds reassuring too. After what seemed like a tropical storm in London this afternoon, the weather should be good so looking forward to going tomorrow ...

I don’t think you can take Bulpitt out after how he’s improved and how he was on Friday. But I think Johal and Carver might drop out.
Then you’ve got Miles, Bulpitt, Bresnan, Brookes and Rhodes as seam options. And Bethell, Mousley, Lamb and Yates for spin.
So you’ve got plenty of options for each depending on the pitch. But if it does look like one that’s going to really turn it might be tight between Brookes and Carver.
Bulpitt and Johal both drop out for Miles and Bresnan. Seems harsh on Bulpitt who was just starting to hit his stride.

The threat of Steel, and even the control from Moriarty, you can see why Robinson kept the spinners in the side.
The balls that got Mousley and Burgess from Steel were excellent. One to Mousley turned big; then a cracking googly to Burgess.
When you see a wrist spinner bowl like that; it’s easy to understand why every side wants and is willing to give a chance to one.

I agree about Jeremy Coney - so knowledgeable and such a strong, warm personality. I think he is much under-used.

All our batsmen made it to double figures - that can't happen very often.
The pitch for most part seemed quite true in terms of bounce as it usually is at the Oval. But there’s a lot of turn there. A few seemed to just stop though, or at least didn’t come on as quickly as they thought, which did for Bresnan and Yates.
I hope Rhodes makes full use of 4 potential spinners in the side, I suspect how they bowl might be the deciding factor.
Good grief this is brutal.
We was well and truly stuffed ! After some hope, with late runs from Brookes and Miles, our bowlers have really let us down. Only Yates and Carver can claim some pride - everyone else has been thumped - principally by David, who clouted 140 off 70 balls (with 11 x 6's) !

I had to check who Tim David was. I think that, with that innings, his List A batting average after a dozen games is about 80.
I think sometimes you just gotta hold your hands up. That guy was unstoppable. Some of them sixes would have been sixes at any ground in the world.
Cheers mate. Alas, a nursery-based pandemic event prevented me bellowing one on your behalf! It's taken me this long to commit to type I was that gutted. I saw some of our innings on YouTube. I think I've been a bit harsh on our batsmen in the past, because they all looked very decent. But they all just got out when set. I might suggest a bit of what Graham Gooch would call "run-getting" is in order. Mentality looks the biggest issue. I didn't watch the Surrey innings but you have to give credit to their lad from Singapore. Having said that, it's slightly more disappointing to see our more established bowlers getting a tonking. Happier to see Johal and Bulpitt get an education really and chalking it up to learning - but we couldn't have known that at the start.

I agree with all that Paul.
I think Bresnan is a spent force, full stop. A great bloke with a great pedigree, but one season past his sell by date (we got the - final - best, out of him last year). His bowling has gone, but his batting hasn't been great. A couple of Championship 50's (averaging 27) and a top score of 34 in the T20, is no where near what he did last season. And the injuries are starting to pile up. Obviously that's why Yorks let him go (or didn't give him a long contract). He's done his bit for us, but I would let him go at the end of the season.
As regards the Captain, for the life of me, I can not see how he uses himself for bowling - in red ball, as well as white. Top of the averages in the Championship (18.5, with 21 wickets, but only bowled 146 overs in 10 matches - that's less overs than any other seamer, even the injured ones !), top of the averages by a mile in the RLC (18, with 8 wickets, but again only 26 overs in 6 matches) and way top in T20 (11.7, with 14 wickets, but only 18 overs in 13 matches !). Anybody would think he is keeping himself back, to maintain his average (I know a few Captains in Club cricket who have always done that !). I wonder how Robinson feels about it - he must either be happy, or doesn't want an argument !
As you sum it all up Paul, it IS a very strange Tournament !
