I haven't seen any announcement of our 'Retained List'. There was speculation on the likely leaving of George Garrett and Manraj Johal, but as far as I've seen, it's gone quiet at Edgbaston.

Have we had an overseas batter as poor as Braithwaite!!?
All our Overseas batsmen have been poor in recent years (though Malan did improve towards the end and Pandya never had much chance before injury). The All Rounders have been a mixed bag (McAndrew & Maxwell did better batting than they did bowling and Brathwaite was so hit and miss - literally !). The bowling choices have been generally OK - last season, Yadav & Siraj and this, Hasan Ali. I wonder whether the fact that our First Team Coach was a bowler, might lead him to be a better judge on that side ? Someone definitely needs to sort out any Overseas batting choices next year - perhaps Larsen might do better.
Still a delay, after the Inspection, but play is due to start soon.
We're unchanged from the Middlesex game.
Somerset won the toss and chose to bat. Andy Umeed playing for them.

I wouldn't even be considering him. This lad averages 10 from 21 FC innings in NZ. One 50+ score.
Yes, I checked him out and spotted those stats. As BR says, he also looks to be a 'thoroughgoing' Kiwi, so unless he has UK connections; status, visa and permit issues might preclude a contract anyway.
Interesting team out today:-
Amir Khan
Isaac Mohammed
Chris Benjamin (Keeper)
Jakob Bhula
Danyal Khan
Kai Smith
George Maddy
Jake Lintott (Captain)
Henry Brookes
Che Simmons
Sam Atkinson
Yadvinder Singh (Bowling)
Possibly one indication of a new Summer contract (depending on Overseas status / visa permits) - Wellington (NZ) batsman Jakob Bhula - who's done really well since he came in. Nikhil Gorantla has also done well in a couple of 2nds game recently, I thought he might be worth another look, but he's not playing today.
Moseley's Yadvinder Singh might also get a Development contract.
No Johal or Garrett (again) says to me that they'll be on their way soon.
With no recent 2nds appearances for Johal and Garrett, I would guess they'll be announced as being released soon. I thought Simmons might also go, but he's a bit younger and playing in the current 2nds game.
Opening the batting for the Seconds today. Has he been released by Derbyshire?
I see Billy Godleman is opening the batting for the Seconds. Has he been released by Derbyshire?
We won by 48 runs. All the bowlers (except Blakemore), getting amongst the wickets.
A great team performance.
National Under 18's One Day Cup Champions!
Playing the Final against Somerset at Kibworth today.
We got a decent score of 262 in our 50, largely down to George Maddy (77). And have taken 4 wickets (for 60, off 15 overs).
Our Theo Wylie opened the batting for the Lions and made 150 off 118 balls (21x4's, 2x6's).
I see they stuck with Booth - and he went some way to justifying that decision, with 1 for 21 off 4.
Here's the squad for the Pears.
You're right GS, Johal is in. I reckon either he or Garrett will be in for Booth - he did get rather caned in Neath.

Can't see Johal there.
Edit: Ah, just realised that's the squad for Glamorgan!

ECB regulations state that games should be played within the county, or at a venue with established links.
Kidderminster and Stourbridge are both in Worcestershire, so are not viable options, likewise I can't see Derbyshire agreeing to Warwickshire use their ground in Derby.
The only ground in Worcestershire that Warwickshire could legitimately use would be Barnt Green, which is a wonderful club ground, one of my favourites, and has an excellent wicket, however it does not have the facilities needed to host a first class or list A game.
The rule that a County has to have "established links", to move to a ground outside the County, clearly allows for us to have games in Staffordshire. We have a very close development relationship with Staffs. There must be loads of good quality grounds in the Black Country, or elsewhere. Staffs MC play in Stoke and Stone, I know Wolverhampton, Walsall and West Bromwich (Dartmouth) used to have great facilities - but its been many years since I've been, so don't know what they're like now. Thoughts?
This season Staffs NCCCA team has played at West Brom Dartmouth, Himley and Smethwick in the Black Country. Dartmouth is an ideal venue for the Bears. Great wicket, wonderful spectator & clubhouse facilities and a large captive, cricket loving 'audience' on the doorstep - and literally a mile from the Birmingham boundary! What caps it all, is the facilities there are so good, they've been chosen to host the NCCA Championship Final, in September.
WBD IS the obvious candidate for any Outground game.

Little chance of any play today, but the squad looks interesting.
I guess there will 7 or 8 of those, who will guarantee to be in the first Metro Bank game, but the remaining 3 or 4 will be difficult to predict. I'd like to see Michael Booth given a run out, a promising South African (English qualified) All Rounder who has played First Class cricket for KwaZulu / Natal and Durham UCCE.
My XI for the early 50 over games would be:-
Yates
Rhodes
Ethan Brookes
Barnard
Booth / Hamza Shaikh
Burgess
Lintott
Miles
Norwell
Johal
OHD
A decent seam attack, but Lintott and Yates will have a lot of spin bowling to do.

No sign of Burgess or OHD so presume they are being rested. We are also lacking a quality overseas player, without one I cannot see us making waves in this competition.
If you add Burgess & OHD to the 13 in the squad for Wales, I think we'll have a decent 50 overs team, though not great. Hopefully, we might have a couple back later in the Tournament, with the new Undead rule, allowing non playing players to be released (with some conditions). It's likely Henry B and Bethell will be back, possibly Mousley and Benjamin.

I think the glaring issue is that we have only played one overseas at a time. And as much as I liked Ali, Maxwell and Hamza, and they did an ok job. None has blown sides away.
Surrey have played 3 at times this year (2 technically by the rules). But they’ve been able to play Worrall plus 2 of Abbot, Latham & Roach at various times this year.
Lancashire have been able to play 2 of Mitchell, Williams and Villas. Hampshire with Abbot and Abbas. Essex with Harmer and Bracewell. Even Kent have Singh and Stewart.Even those that have only played 1, their contribution as a difference maker has been better, look at Henry for Somerset.
It’s definitely tougher to get a top batting overseas, but if other teams have been able to recruit a Latham or a Pujara, you’ve got to think we’d be able to get one too. But needs to be top quality, not another Pieter Malan.
Awkwardly though, if you were to bring in an overseas batsman, the person whose place would be most at risk is Will Rhodes.
But a team of say:
Yates
Davies
Latham/Pujara/A.N Other
Hain
Mousley
Barnard
Burgess
Briggs
Ali/A.N Other
Rushworth/Brookes
OHD/NorwellWould be a real tough proposition for any side. Also don’t think we can underestimate how good Norwell is at this level, and we’ve recruited like he’s going to play. But I think we need to accept that’s not the case and perhaps take a similar approach as Surrey with our bowlers. Stockpile and rotate. As we’ve often been left with an attack that doesn’t have that real point of difference that Norwell offers.
Norwell played for the 2nds earlier in the week and will be available for the 50 Over games. PERHAPS he'll be back for the remaining CC matches.

"Academy All Rounder, Isaac Mohammed, who scored a double century earlier in the week, for Warwickshire Under 18's, is in the SACA team."
That may not be the case as he bowled 6 overs for the U18's in Abergavenny this morning.
The County Under 18's game he got the double century was at the weekend.
An I Mohammed got 141 NO today for SACA against our 2nds. I assumed it was Isaac. Perhaps not.
