I'm really sorry to see Tom Rawlings go, though ten years in the same job is a long time these days.
Not only is Tom excellent at his job, he has also been a good friend to Bearsfans. He was very supportive of the new site being set up and was happy to publicise it on the Club site. He has also occasionally put me right if we have got our facts wrong.
Hopefully, his successor will be equally supportive.

Sadly it seems being "politically correct" is considered more important than ability to do the job.

To be honest mate, I think it's more likely they're looking for someone with communication skills and experience dealing with the media than someone who's 'politically correct'. What do you mean by that in this context anyhow?

I, too, can't see the political correctness angle.
But I do think it would be difficult to imagine someone doing the job with the necessary commitment and enthusiasm if they didn't have a love of cricket.
The nearest equivalent I can think of is John Robinson, who was Bishop of Woolwich in the 1960s even though he didn't believe in God.

Ha! I do like the John Robinson example. I come clean as a Communications and Media manager - but agree you always need to understand the business well in whatever business you are in. Easier if you love the game in this situation.

I haven't seen any public announcement; but based on an email I've received, the Club have appointed Brigg Ford to the post. I don't know anything about him except that he seems to live in Stratford-upon-Avon so at least he's based in the right county.

It seems Mr Ford was a spokeperson for West Midlands Police in 2015 till about 2020, so highly unlikely he has a background of working in professional sport.
