Problem for Davies now does he carry on digging in or does he try to score more quickly?
My question would be why did we choose to bat on a pitch and in conditions that require us to dig in?
I’d be a lot more understanding if we’d been put in.
I don't have much faith in Davies as captain and i don't know why he chose to bat first. Possibly he was worried about Lyon spinning us out if we batted last?
The forecast may have also been a factor, we may have wanted to avoid batting in the rain on Sunday
Another low score for Mouseley
What is the point of the seconds? Benjamin scoring a ton of runs yet doesn't get a chance when Mouseley continues to perform poorly this season.
You need to trust young talented players long term however, there has to be a consequence of consistent poor returns
Great little knock from Bethell under the circumstances.
Amused that one of the prizes in the Lancashire raffle at Old Trafford today is a signed Alex Davies montage.
5 batsmen failed to get 30 runs. Just not good enough when Davies can manage it.
A great little knock from Hassan Ali, another 50 or 60 runs would give us a decent score.
284 all out
Davies carries his bat.
Great effort from Alex Davies. Who was the last man to carry his bat for the Bears?
Him?
I suspect when the championship restarts after the first block of T20, unless he gets a decent score in the second innings Mousley will be “rested”.
It’s clearly a tough deck to bat on, there’s plenty in it for the bowlers. Makes Davies knock even better, nice to see him finally get some difficult runs.
Horrible, slow, tacky pitch. Not a minefield as such but not easy to get in on. Weather looks as though it might have a big say. We bowled well.
Matt Lamb, double ton for Derbyshire. Good player, great lad.
An on and off kind of day which generally favours the bowling side.
7 down now, Bethell is bowling superbly. Come on You Bears!
Have to stick with Bethell and Yates as spinners long term. If/when they become consistent threats, whilst already being good top order batters, it completely transforms our side and allows us to play an extra batter or extra seamer. There will be growing pains along the way but we have to think long term on this. This is the way to go.
This specialist spinner business is nonsense when, with all due to respect to the lad, Danny Briggs is that specialist spinner.
Yates annd Bethell always seem to bowl better when there’s a specialist spinner in the side though.
When they’re the focal point, they don’t seem to produce as much.
Might be more due to the attitude batters take to them, knowing if they hit them out the attack it has a major effect on the team. Whereas it has a lot less benefit if they’re a bonus, and as such the risk isn’t worth it. Which allows them to get into the groove.

Whilst it's great they're giving Bethell & Yates an extensive runout (for the long term future of the club), it must be depressing for Lintott. He gets a CC chance while Briggs is injured, gets 3 overs, takes a wicket (on a pitch and in conditions made for him) - and then has no other opportunities to stake a long term red ball claim.
'The only good banker, is the Lickey Banker!'
If we persevere with them they become the automatic spinners. It will take time though. I'd rather go this way than play a specialist who might not always be in the game due to lack of potency, conditions etc. If the conditions don't suit RY and JB then they can still offer good runs in the top 7. The specialist just bat's 9 or 10.
Unless that specialist spinner is proven genuine quality.
