I would think Mousley is the more likely.

I'd go with that (as would many on here), but I doubt management would - they love him in red ball, as much as white !

I think Yates, Mousley and Bethell are more than adequate spin options.

Another question could be whether OHD, Jamal, Rhodes and Barnard offer adequate seam options without the need for Miles. The advantage of including Briggs is that we’re not asking Yates, Mousley and Bethell to potentially bat for hours at the top of the order and then giving them a heavy workload on the field (especially given Bethell’s injuries last season)

And, where is Woakes? I thought he was back from the IPL. No Rushworth or Norwell is also a blow along with Hasan Ali on drinks duty for Pakistan.

Believe it or not, but Briggs is left out. Team:-

Yates
Davies
Rhodes
Hain
Barnard
Bethell
Mousley
Burgess
Aamir Jamal
Miles
OHD

Batting long - but a few 'non-frontliners' in the bowling department ?

Surrey won the toss and chose to bowl.

Not unreasonable to expect a tune out of Jamal, particularlyunder the circumstances. Here as an overseas, probably on decent dough, we're short on bowlers, give us a performance.

Warwickshire 88/2. I notice Ollie Pope and Ben Foakes are both playing for Surrey?

Hain gets an absolute shocker

88/3 - Hain gone for 17 last ball before lunch. Hain was unhappy with the umpire's decision. Looked a bit iffy.

Welcome back to the Oval Sam!
Just in time for your traditional annual triggering.

He whacked his pad so obviously, wasn’t like he flicked it as the ball went past, he thudded his pad well before the ball reached him, and then there was a huge gap between bat and ball.
It looked bad real time, it looks horrendous in replay.

We do seem to get some stinkers of decisions down there

The ball was nowhere near Hain's bat. The Umpire seemed swayed by the wicketkeeper and slips jumping in the air! Very poor call.

Yates and Mousley given poor LBW decisions. Yates hit outside off and Mousley hit above the pad!!

Seem to remember Hain getting a shocker a few seasons ago, given out caught down the leg side off Roach, a bit of Deja Vu rearing it's ugly head.

Yes Burgess got a shocking LBW in the same innings. Thought Mousley decision today was a bit iffy too, looked high in real time.

Fought hard today on a tricky pitch up against a very good attack, Surrey weren't loose, it was high quality cricket. Just shows if one guy can get in and everyone else can chip in a side can still get up to decent totals. Does anybody know what Ed Barnard's red ball average for Warwickshire is? He don't get 'daddy hundreds but he very rarely misses out or has a sustained bad run of form as far as I can tell. Bet he's in the high 30's.

Pretty good crowd today, members end was busy and vibrant.

Good spirit shown today against the best team in the championship by some distance on a pitch that had enough in it to never really get yourself in properly. Hain's dismissal was a dreadful decision by an experienced umpire who should not be getting swayed by the home team like that.

Normally, you would consider all of those scores for 20's & 30's as a lack of concentration and fight but I am hoping that we are starting to see some resilience in this team that can really make a difference.

We need to get as many runs as possible though as we look quite light in attack.
