Agree. Briggs should have sacrificed himself, bonus points will be crucial if there's not many wins about.

In hindsight it looks poor.
But if Bethell and Ali don’t throw their wickets away, you could make the argument, it’s far better to push for 500-550, accept missing the 400 bonus point to keep Hampshire out there and try only bat once.

As it is, unless we see more OHD and Burgess miracle partnerships reaching that sort of score is going to be very tough.

Agree. And the dismissals in isolation look poor but Hampshire bowled pretty well this morning I thought. We still scored over 100 runs in the session.

Unrelated but George Garrett 43* at lunch for Kent .

Judging by the fact the ball appeared to seam and spin more as the innings went on, I’m hoping this pitch becomes a lot harder to bat on as the match goes on.
Would love it to start gripping as we do have 4 spinners in the line up.

The Hampshire stream isn’t very good is it? Poor camera angles from one end, commentary ahead of the picture, scoreboard updating slowly.

Have to agree, strange angles to watch a game from seeing as it wasn't like that on the first day. Hope we can quickly get to a 200 lead and then the rest of the batsmen must be told to really try and "Give it a whack" and see if we can set them perhaps 280 in 60+ overs. Trouble is though, draw points are worth a lot now so a lot of teams might not be tempted to try and be positive. Essex already have 2 wins and drawing will only leave us and others, a big margin of points behind.

Essex have won and so have Durham; and Surrey look certain to win, so a draw won't be such a great result tomorrow.
As the great Sammy Woods of Somerset said many years ago, "Draw(er)s are only good for bathing in."

That's the sort of target I had in mind too - though may be hard to set that. 30 overs morning session, needs to be about 4.5 an over? Quickest scoring since day 1. Might be OK with 10 wickets to utilise.

Rain getting very close to Southampton.
One consolation is that it may get to Canterbury too before Surrey finish off Kent.

Is this why we just kept batting?

You could have got very long odds against Rob Yates being our leading wicket taker after 3 rounds of the CC. Almost as long as those against Alex Davies being the leading run scorer in the country!
With the weather and the balls, it's almost impossible to tell which teams are doing well and which are struggling. It promises to be a topsy-turvy season.

Who would have thought that after three games of the season (almost a quarter of the season) our top three would all be averaging over 100!
