Not really keen on this sort of signing. But the County have made it clear in the past 2 or 3 seasons that winning the Blast is priority.

It’s different in age and length, but not particularly different to the Garton signing. It’s got 1 aim in mind, and it seems a case of willing to mortgage the ability to make championship signings in order to spend the money on T20.

Agree in part but also we do need to give our youngsters more time to develop or even flourish in the county championship. Unless there's a player available April thru May and/or August thru September who will improve on what we have there's no real point signing for the sake of bulking up the championship squad anymore, the loan system is reasonably generous these days and will suffice if there's a problem for the sporadic foray into first class cricket mid-summer (June) for instance.

The way the schedule is now (which as folks will be well aware I have a major issue with in general terms) means there's no need to have a settled squad raring to go for 5 months from mid April anymore

Agree the youngsters need to come through but if you look at the seam bowling, we got rid of them instead.
3 young seamers left this off season. All that’s realistically seemingly behind them in terms of home grown youngsters is Simmons.
On the surface our seam attack of Rushworth, OHD, Norwell, Miles, Barnard, Booth and Ali as an overseas is decent. But when you look at the ages, injury history, availability or experience, then it’s concerning.
And as much as the loan system can work, you’ll never win a championship relying on loans. The best players don’t go on loan unless you’re signing them permanently next season. Squads always need adding to, to stop them overly aging or becoming stale.

He's been picked up by Chennai Super Kings for remainder of the IPL.

Potential to impact when he starts with us.

IPL final is 26 May so he should be back in time for the Blast.
A nice little earner for him as he nears the end of his career.

Let's how he can stay fit for the rest of that tournament and be back for us come Blast QF.
