I somehow think that this won't be greeted with unqualified acclaim on here:

Best wishes to him. Be interesting to see if the sides character will change much. Will we be a bit chirpier in the field? Don't recall hearing him shout much. Will games drift more? First season for him could be quite tough but hopefully he'll be able to throw the ball to trusty OHD and Rushy and will he lead from the front or step down the order?

I’m sure he wouldn’t have been everyone’s choice but I just hope that everyone can get behind him and not get on his back from day 1.

I wish him well but if we're struggling early season and he's not making runs this could get awkward quickly. Wonder if he drops down the order?

A surprise that at the same time isn’t a surprise at all. He captained the T20 well last year before the knock out stages, the team played far better than they did under Ali.

Still doesn’t inspire confidence with the bat so will be interesting to see how he leads from the front. Will we see a more adventurous (reckless) style of play?

Time will tell.
At least there’s no problem with him being “assured his place in the team” because we all know he’s assured a place in the team no matter how he bats.

It might be tactful for Davies to have a word with Burgess along the lines of "I know you're a better keeper than me and you're worth your place as a batsman anyway. You have the gloves and I'll focus on batting and captaincy."
I hope that's how it plays out.

Bearing in mind that, in some ways, this appointment was the logical one in that he was T20 captain last year, I'm surprised that it has taken until the second half of January for the announcement to be made.

I'm afraid he doesn't seem like a Warwickshire Captain to me!

I fear for this one.

Apologies if this has already been covered but I notice Alex Davies made PCA Mens team of the year.

Bet that boiled some piss on here.

Ed Barnard was also included.

Davies was also Player’s Player of the season, which suggests that he isn’t disliked among the squad.

Interview with Alex Davies:

PS - as any PR expert would advise, if you're not quite as popular as you'd like to be, make sure you're pictured with a cute dog.

Really liked this interview.
His point on whether the captaincy affects you and he answered “I don’t really know”, Is a really honest answer, and his elaboration is great. How his mindset did differ at times, but also he just wanted to bat, carry out the work he’d done in the winter.
Think the interesting point will be next year or the year after, as we’ve seen for clubs and countries with players like Rhodes, Root, Abell, Kohli, Cook. As Davies says, it’s the extra duties you never realised were needed, the extra conversations, the endless concentration, personal and team pressure, that gets to players in the end.

Plus the dog point is excellent, great PR move.

Alex Davies has extended his contract to cover the next three seasons:

It's again significant that the Club quote comes from Gavin Larsen, not Mark Robinson.

Sadly the quote from Larsen suggests that a, desperately needed, change of captain won't be made.

I agree Gerry, Robinson again nowhere to be heard. There have been no pronouncements from him since 30 September - that article on the Beeb Cricket site, quoting something he said to BBC CWR (presumably before the 30th), which is no more than a statement that we need to, "draw breath and come back strong" (which no one can argue about !). More significantly, that could be read as a 'valedictory remark', pretty much at the time that the 'September Review' should have been completed !
