Great partnership, Barnard is turning out to be a Diamond and Briggs is so good for a number 8.

If hard cash was on offer for a 3rd position, perhaps a few wives breathing down a few players' necks, saying "think what a few extra £'s could do..". That never hurts for getting things moving, or am I being sexist now.

Sounds like an honest observation of life as it has always been !!!!!!
So we finish 3rd if we draw and Hants lose?
Surrey v Hants looks like it's going to end up a nailbiter as well. Which is more than can be said of Essex. If we do win this, and I think that's going to be tough from here, we will be very close to matching Essex and I didn't consider that a possibility until a few hours ago.
We need a typical late September morning session wicket tomorrow. Get near to the tailenders by lunch - game on!

Apart from that little mid season wobble after the Blast, we've had a good season.
Agreed, I regard this as a good season after two up and down years; we over achieved winning the Championship in 2021, we under achieved last year; 2023 represents an accurate reflection of where we are at present.
As an aside, I sat upstairs in the Press Box Stand today for the first time in a few years (Certainly it was pre-COVID the last time I went up there) and sad to say that the whole upper tier is looking fairly unloved at present. Rust leaking out of much of the metal work, most of the paint peeling from the railings and walls, the guttering at the front of the top tier clogged with litter and vegetation, with weeds growing in several parts of the gutter, and a metal bar (Presumably used to secure advertising hoardings in a previous life) disconnected from the rest of the railings and abandoned in said guttering don't do much to create a good impression on visitors.
Bears fan, Wolves fan, no longer a not so vital statistician...
Have just been told by someone within the club that the players end of season bonus will be roughly a couple grand more each for finishing 3rd instead of 4th.
So I was totally wrong about it not being motivation. That’ll definitely get a few of them pushing harder on the last day.
I would hope they would be motivated to win a game of cricket anyway. If not we should be shipping them out and getting some local lads in!
In any case 3rd place completely now depends on the Hampshire result!
Yes, agree with the sentiment in the previous comments. 3rd or 4th is all on Surrey against Hampshire and althought there is a big difference in those two positions it shouldn't change our assessment of the season. I'd say it has been a good season too, despite the fact there are some things to work on. They as an existing group, without too many new players, need to sort out between themselves and they don't need to rip anything up or start again. It's not a terrible place to be.
Best weather of the week by miles and we're not playing
Sums up the stupidity of cricket at times
In among a lot of very good cricket in all 3 formats there was a few astonishing extreme batting collapses. Quite a strange combination. Viewing from a distance at least we can say it hasn't been boring. The only disappointment has been they have no trophy at the end.

How are we not on here?!

Madness..delays today and the first day when we should have been on way before 2.10pm have likely robbed us of a very good day of cricket
The lads are playing with a football...really dangerous outfield..
'Elf n safety has a lot to answer for!!
No wonder ppl my age can't be bothered to watch county cricket
Trying to explain to my wife why were not playing now.. I can't explain it myself. If there's standing water why are the groundsman doing nothing?
This became a real problem when the ECB decided it was up to the umpires to decide if it is safe to play instead of the teams deciding. As a result the umpires are always going to be cautious to avoid being blamed for any mishap.
