Woakes in?

Win again?!

You would think Woakes would have to play, but then we all thought that last time out.

Presumably Miles would be the one to drop out, unless they go Bresnan as Woakes matches his batting.

Win again and we would be favourites to go through surely.

Will Woakes play? Crazy situation. Not in the England squad for the NZ test. Surely he needs some match practice and fitness?

I think this is the key round for 2 reasons.
Firstly, this has the potential to be a big haul of points with a win and lots of bonus points. Which obviously has an impact on the group.
But also, I suspect Essex will beat or at least draw against Notts at Chelmsford. Either of those 2 results puts us in the driving seat of the group you’d feel, with Essex having played a game more, and Notts then being behind or roughly level with us on points, but still having to go to Durham where the rain is more likely to play a role, and we all know Durham are much better at home than away.

Sidebottom and Mousley in the squad plus the eleven that beat Notts:

It’s clearly an ECB decision, as it was reported he was training at Edgbaston recently, but the club weren’t optimistic he’d be available.
What I can’t understand is of the IPL group why only certain players can’t play. Malan is in tomorrow’s squad to play for Yorkshire, Billings was in the Kent squad and has been called up to England, Livingstone pulled out a bit earlier but he’s been playing for Lancashire.
If he isn’t allowed to play County cricket at all, his first match won’t be until June 23rd at the earliest. That’s almost a year of his career that he could say has been wasted.

Very frustrating surely Woakes would want to play

Very difficult to get any form going or case for test selection this summer if not playing

Whilst Woakes has done more travelling,Broad would have played more this winter

When asked on Facebook the response from the club was not too specific….

It would be helpful if someone from the club clarified what is actually going on with Woakes. I just don't get it. His match fitness must be shot. Seemingly nowhere near the England set-up as well. This is baffling after a good Summer last year.

Unchanged 11 and we have lost the toss and are batting. Interesting that our 12th man is listed as J Couhglin, once of Durham I believe. I don't think he's played any second team games for us so not sure what the story is there.

For a bit more info on Woakes look at George's cricinfo report from the last game. The gist of it was Woakes was going to play in ODIs this summer and therefore wouldn't play red ball domestic, at least at this part of the season. I don't really buy the narrative that Woakes is being held hostage by the ECB, he probably wants this. He's a 30xx year old with dodgy knees, if I was him I would want enough international cricket to secure franchise gigs and Warwicks only to loosen and fine tune. I also feel he loves the club and wants to pay us back - but I think that might be optimistic. Same situation with Ian Bell, desire was there just his ability had gone by the time it came to be.

If that’s the case then that’s the decision, but my issue is that we (fans and members) are not really being communicated that narrative. Without which only bad feelings towards all of the parties can occur.

As for the game, not the best of starts…

Another failure by Malan. Out for 0. I'd rather play Mousley.

Yah. I don't argue with you on that. One of the many examples of the ECB not understanding fans, supporters and the grassroots. It's them I think are the real issue, ECB are Woakes' employer.

I see Keith Barker is still doing the business for Hampshire: 4 wickets for 4 runs vs Somerset!

If it is ex-Durham player Josh Coughlin as 12th man, that does seem a bit strange. He's not going to get a playing contract by acting as a glorified waiter and man-servant, which seems to be the 12th man role these days. He may perhaps get the chance to do a bit of fielding so possibly he's seen as Warwickshire's answer to Gary Pratt (remember him?).
