Top work killer Bs and OHD getting it done. Handy win with Middlesex holding off Lancashire. Next round looks tasty as well. We play Middlesex then the teams above us play each other. If ever there was a time for a pressure game performance, this is it.

To be fair Mousley made 60 too v Surrey.

Showed some character there though, terrific knock from Burgess under huge pressure, it will do his confidence a lot of good.

Feel for Sanderson, he was so good up front, virtually unplayable.

I thought that the pitch had a bit of life and carry when I was there on Sunday; and though others on here have said differently, I am inclined to bow to Mr. Robinson's opinion.

It did indeed nip when the overheads came in but there was no cloud cover today. Certainly not the seamer it was made out to be by 1 or 2 people on here. There wasnt much going through the pitch. Honestly Sanderson was really good. He swung the older ball in Day 2, clearly in good form he is.

Decent wicket for September to be fair, don't mind giving a bit to the bowler, it's the low slow tracks in May, June and July I can't be having.

We got over the line and it provided a tense finish. Burgess got us out of jail from 24/5. Credit due to Northants who bowled well and exposed our batting frailties.
But.... it was struggle against the worst team in the division who were missing some players. The win may have papered over the cracks but the same problems remain.
If we do not want to accept mediocrity and compete with Surrey, Essex and Hampshire then there needs to be a full review of our coaching and playing staff at the end of the season. Where are you Gavin Larsen?

Poor docile pitch. Certainly not a seamer or a batting track.

Another example that Edgbaston has been heavily utilised and WCCC need a better plan involving outgrounds.

We got home and credit to Burgess but not much beyond that.

Not really sure Robinson has much to crow about other than the outcome. Northants captain admitted they had no leg to stand on in the deal and we could have been more ruthless with that but cricket shouldnt be about deals anyway really.

Pretty unsatisfactory all round. Even Burgess played two horrendous shots late on.

Thanks to both sides but especially Northants for an excellent afternoon's cricket on what could have been the dullest of dull days. Thought the pitch was good, some pace, a bit of help for the seamers and I suspect a good spinner would have done well on day 4. We were lucky to beat the county stuck to the bottom of division 1 which says something about our weaknesses in top order batting (although a tough job in the CC) and a lack of depth in pace bowling once past the excellent OHD and Chris Rushworth.

Some thoughts about Robinson carrying on as coach. I'd say you have to judge him against what he is resourced for and I'd guess Warwickshire aim / budget to be a first division county that regularly qualifies for T20 finals day. Having won the CC & being in div 1 Robinson has significantly outperformed on the first objective. On the T20 he's slightly underperformed. Overall t20 performances have been about right as shown by finishing top of the group for the last two years but three quarter final defeats an obvious disappointment. But even there I think it's valid to wonder how much is down to the coach and how much just one of those things that will come right if the overall performances continue to be OK.

I've been critical of the pitches at Edgbaston for quite a few years now (not a dig at Barwell, I just feel the whole square at Edgbaston is knackered) but for September at the end of a long season that pitch was a decent cricket wicket, had a bit of something for everyone and decent carry which is so important and something we dont see very often at Edgbaston. Credit where its due.

However we're at the point now where some people are going to use there own dumbfounded criticism of any and every pitch at Edgbaston to justify their desperation for outground cricket.

I'm not sure playing a one day cup match or County Championship match at Rugby School or whatever all of a sudden means the decks at Edgbaston are going to become like Old Trafford or Headingley etc...
