Gotta give the bowlers credit there. That over Rhodes bowled at Moores was excellent and there was clearly a plan to go short at Harrison.

Follow on enforced.
Obviously they’re backing themselves to not have an issue with the heat.

Someone has pointed out that it’s not as if this is the end of a 4 match stretch. OHD, Rushworth and Ali have played just one T20 between them in the last few weeks. So should be in good shape. Barnard has had plenty of rest too. Rhodes hasn’t done much either.
And with Briggs, Mousley and Yates, there’s plenty of spin options to allow rotation.
Got lots of bowling. Time to put it to use.

We're still looking good, a lot depends on the new ball in the morning I reckon.

To add though I think we need to win as have a horrible feeling Surrey will pull off their miracle run chase.

Still pretty positive. Took 9 wickets today. Only 6 needed tomorrow.
Use the new ball well and should get it done. They have a fairly long tail.

Confident of victory which would be spoilt by a Surrey win. You get the feeling that Kent could wilt in the heat but hope not.

I enjoyed my day at Trent Bridge today though maybe it wasn't the best day to be in the city of Nottingham.
Does anyone know about Sam Hain's absence from the field? Looked as though it was a leg injury.

Afterwards from Rich Wilford that it’s a hamstring issue. And he can bat if required. However the idea is to ensure he is fit for the T20 on Friday against Worcestershire. Which suggests it isn’t too bad.
Probably also shows where the team are mentally, they still feel they can get this done without batting again. So a big first hour with the new ball, a wicket or 2, goes a long way to getting that done.

According to Richard Wilford of the BBC, Hain has a hamstring problem. He can bat if necessary in this game, but the focus is on getting him fit for the Pears on Friday night.

Thanks to both of you for the update. Let's hope that it really is very mild. From painful personal experience, a minor hamstring can become major if not rested.

Looks as though this could be a horrible day for us. Surrey are just 70 away from a big win and if we do not get these wickets soon, an even bigger gap opens up at the top.

Exactly as I suspected on day 1.

Looking at how green the pitch was but it had been cut very short so nothing really for our seamers to work with so Notts obviously just watered it well enough in the lead up so that the pitch didn't break up in all this heat on days 3 + 4. It's what sides do who have no spin advantage. Briggs won us that game 2 years ago spinning Notts out to help us complete a double over them so they've clearly tried to neuter any advantage we have over them in that respect. High scoring draw was always likely in this instance.

This feels like a potentially huge turning point in the season

Yes we might not finish in the top two now which was always the most realistic possibility after the defeat to Surrey. I think it means we can however try some of the youngsters out a bit more so potentially might be a good thing

There's still a lot of cricket to be played yet, Warks have a game in hand on Surrey and the immediate teams below us. 32 points behind with 8 games left is going to be difficult to make up but not impossible.

We have to play Surrey at The Oval in September and if they haven't already run away with the title by then, we will have to win it somehow. Never thought Kent's bowling was very good when they played us and on a flat pitch they must look very poor and makes you wonder how they never made many in the first innings.

I presume that our ex, Dom Sibley, is not expecting a Test recall any time soon - 140 not out off 415 balls is not exactly Baz-ball.
But he got the job done.

Agreed. I think we’re still in a good position for second at least, and the game at the Oval may end up being important as well. The weather could also have an impact at any stage.

Far too early to be writing off a championship push.
If anything I’m heartened by the display this week.
An average team wouldn’t have been able to do that on a pitch that flat against a team that’s got plenty of good batting in it.

Most batting points in the division. Full bowling points. A game in hand. Still to play Surrey again. I also think in the next couple of rounds of fixtures Surrey will struggle with the Kookaburra ball. Whilst in OHD and Ali we have players suited to extract the most from it. And there’s a lot of cricket to be played.

Update from Robinson on Sam Hain:
"He’s sore and he’ll have a scan (hamstring) tomorrow. We won’t know anymore until that happens. He’ll be no more than 50/50 for Friday at this stage.”
I would say that if he has a sore hamstring on Wednesday, he's extremely unlikely to be fully fit by Friday.
