Only Hain seems to have turned up.
Need a reset which includes dropping Moeen.
There’s a couple of players who seem to be undroppable, like Benjamin, but repeatedly offer very little.
Think I’d rather see Barnard or Rhodes get a proper chance.
This is really, really poor cricket from us. Fielding rubbish, bowling worse and Batting is Sam Hain.
Derbys have deserved this win, other than Hain they have been on top of the game in both innings.
Miles & Brookes are not bowlers for this format, they are constantly belted around the park and our batsmen need to start helping Hain out.
Very disappointed with the last 4 matches. Feels like we have really slipped backwards and the momentum has disappeared from our game.
Our seam bowling is terrible. I have no confidence in either Miles or Brookes. Miles is definitely not a death bowler.
Really poor defeat
That was shocking
Miles..brookes..Ali..Davies..carrying too many players
Nice if Maxwell fancies showing up to
Yeah. Momentum is all the other way now. Big fan of Mo over his career and have never criticised him, but I wonder if parachuting him in as captain from IPL while effectively still cold has destabilised everyone else? Having said that, don't think it's an individuals thing and not worth dropping him or promoting the other, just need to get heads up throughout the organisation.
It is quite apparent that Ali has had a dreadful destabilising effect on this team which a week ago was exceptional. They have gone from a keen hard working team who would do anything to help each other to one that is in disarray. First Yates is dropped, and comes back then woakes and Ali come in and lintott gets the chop. All in total disarray. I know Davies was gutted to lose the leadership and this has seriously undermined the whole team. This game tonight frankly is embarrassing- without Hain it would be awful and you can’t help thinking Lintott will be sitting there almost gloating, especially with woakes and Moeen off this weekend. A bit shambolic.
To be fair Moeen and Mousley were our only good bowlers tonight. Everyone else was off it and those must be among Woakes’ worst T20 figures. I think if Moeen hadn’t come in as captain it wouldn’t have been so much of an issue.
Actually Miles 18th Over only cponceeding 8 runs put us in a winning position with 34 runs needed by Derbys. It was the next over by Woakes that did it for us conceeding 20 runs. But should we have had fast bowlers on at the death ?
Breaking their opening partnership was a bit bizarre.
All in all very disappointing.
Well, we did the right thing in batting first but Hain was the only reason we got a good score and from then, we should have been able to defend it. They were winning it easily but a few tight overs saw it rise to 14-15 per over. The persistence with Briggs was strange rather than mixing it up and even giving Maxwell a bowl but Woakes was not on song and it seemed as though every ball that was slightly off, was carted for 6. We did not score enough boundaries in the first 10 overs and I have no idea how we got 203 even with Hain's brilliance. I would not have seen us losing twice to a poor side (I will be chastised no doubt for this) like Derbyshire once let alone twice and the group is now so tight we might not even end up qualifying.
The only upside is we still have time to find a winning formula but I'm not sure exactly how we do that with the personnel we have.
Moeen and Woakes will go so Davies will go back to captain - that's one issue sorted.
Benjamin needs to find form or be dropped. Maxwell needs to do something. Assuming we work those two things out we're in a better position.
But Miles and Brookes are not good enough. As someone else said both are constantly getting walloped. Our death bowling is non-existent. Hassan Ali needs to be fit and good enough to carry both.
As a bowling unit so far this is as poor as we've had T20 wise.
Moeen bowled well tonight, he bowls well at left handers. These past 3 games we've given seamers, or a seamer, 2 each at the death and that 2nd over has been pumped every time whether its been Woakes, Miles or Brookes. Think back to the previous games. We're getting that wrong. Was convinced we we're going Woakes, Miles, Brookes, Woakes for the last 4 overs. Davies gave seamers 1 each at the death and it worked. Moeen is getting that wrong.
It's a tough gig on that pitch with such a short boundary towards to Hollies and the outfield seems quicker the other side. The ball seems to plug towards the wide long on area but from the other end it kicks on and races away.
Are we trying to be a bit too funky with the bat? Lots of missed paddles, switch hit type shots and sweeps. Just stay still and hit the ball like Derby did tonight and Munro did Saturday. Look at Mousley, twice in a row now he's been going well and then got himself out attempting something mad. So frustrating.
Davies has kept poorly these past 2 games, missed out on a couple of half chances and he's incredibly slow in getting up to the stumps. He runs du Plooy out tonight on the 3rd ball of the last over if he's at the stumps quicker. He's been a bit slow on run out chances a few times. Fine lines.
I thought the team selection was probably correct to be honest. Lintott has dropped off a bit and Barnard does look hittable. May well see one of them back in on Friday though.
Fair play Derbyshire, kept on going, kept on believing. Stunning heist. Great game.
We should be able to defend that total. Absolute garbage. Benjamin, Miles and Brookes need to be sent back to the seconds. OHD must play.
Maxwell has to find form and Robinson needs to find a formula and fast.
It’s quite apparent the dressing room atmosphere has been altered by moeens arrival and poor ish performances, but there are other problems. With the groundsmen solely focussed on the ashes wicket we keep getting absurd one sided pitches. When your batsmen apart from one aren’t performing surely it’s easier to defend a bigger boundary all round as if the opposition get two batsmen whacking it you are always going to lose. If hain fails goodness knows who takes it on!
For me the most disappointing of the 3 losses in a row. Should have defended that score comfortably. I don't worry about the batters in this format but maybe some of our successful Championship bowlers need to have a chance now.
The problem is Robinson has pinned his colours to the mast now. Does he have the strength, but also the support within the dressing room to hold his hands up to making some selection mistakes, and change some things within that side.
He’s given Moeen and Davies the leadership roles. One who performed awfully last year, and there was never any guarantee of performances. And the other first year back at the club, hadn’t even practiced with the team. Just parachuted in and expected to know everything about everyone.
You’ve got some players on decent wages and recent extensions like Benjamin, Miles, Brookes, who if not picked, you wonder what they’re at the club for, as it seems they have no chance of playing in the red ball side. Whilst players like Barnard & Rhodes seem to have earned their chance aren’t getting a fair shot, or even the likes of Burgess who for whatever reason has been written off in this format altogether. So you wonder if this is starting to become an ego thing with Robinson, refusing to back down from his decisions and in denial that he’s made some selection mistakes. As it seems we’re picking on reputation rather than performance. Yates being dropped after scoring a rapid 70, whilst Benjamin and Davies staying in after being very slow and scratchy for a while now, being the perfect example.

Can't argue with any of that BB (Note to Mods - I wish we had a 'Like' button, as we did on the old site!). I think we've all had doubts about Robinson's approach to selection for a while now and while Farb was there, it was tempered a bit. I hope GL starts to impose a bit more control over that.

The averages make slightly gruesome reading unless your name is Sam Hain; and they tell their own story:

It seemed to me when Moeen got the first wicket there was just a "polite" coming together of the players with some high fives. Previous games when a wicket fell there seemed to be an enthusiastic coming together of the team with real meaningful high fiving. Did anyone see it that way or is it me being picky?
