I don’t know why but i have always struggled to take to Moeen, I guess it’s similar to what some people felt for David Gower (a bit before my time). A talented player who makes it look so easy when it works, but gets out in infuriating ways.

Good luck to him for England this, I hope it works out for him. He was definitely messed around by Root and I understood why he retired when he did. It does unfortunately really show the country’s dearth of quality with spin bowling though.

I wasn’t too fussed about him coming across for the T20 campaign and not paying anny attention to any franchise cricket I don’t know what his record was elsewhere. It seemed more of a marketing signing than a cricketing one.

He's a bit overrated. I find this England Test recall bizarre.

It’s a huge gamble for England, but I think it’s the correct call. Experience goes a long way in an Ashes series.

Any decision would have been a gamble but I agree that this is probably the least worst option.
As for Moeen being overrated, he does have some pretty good stats to back up his reputation - almost 30,000 runs and over 1,000 wickets in all formats.

I never said he was no good, I'm a fan, just a bit overrated. Some people do go on like he's Sobers though.

I’d phrase it as this is the option with the lowest odds of failure.
They know exactly what they’re getting. Whilst a longer shot might arguably be a better spinner; they know what to expect from Moeen, they know he knows what test and ashes cricket is about, and they’ve hedged their bet by knowing that he could come good with bat or ball.

Though I still can’t escape the feeling that if Dawson, Parkinson, Jacks, Ahmed or even someone like Briggs or Bess, was as good mates with Stokes as Moeen is, that they’d be in the side. And the test experience suddenly wouldn’t matter.

Title of the thread still holds true. When he comes back from T20 WC does he play for us in the rest of the Blast? Is he still a Warks player? Or a free agent going from contract to contract?

Moeen was named as our T20 captain before the season started, perhaps it was uncertain whether England would select him for the T20 World Cup? If England lose today they will fly home tomorrow, or if they reach the final they will be back on Monday. Our next T20 game is on Friday 5 July, so he could possibly be back for that?

I reckon that Moeen will be available for the rest of our T20 campaign, and that the reason Benjamin has been kept in the side is purely keeping Moeen's place warm at Number 6! After all, it would be extremely harsh to drop anyone else from our T20 side so it makes sense that, if available, Moeen will replace Benjamin. So now the logic for keeping Benjamin in the side becomes clear - that's my theory anyway!

It wouldn’t surprise me in the slightest, Robinson basically avoiding having to make a difficult decision later.
We know he prefers not to drop players, he waits for any non-performance based excuse he can find.

Moeen can stay there for all I care. He has always been a pampered cricketer, probably too many family members watching him when he plays, telling him how good he is and believing it. He has done nothing in this T20 world cup and don't remember him doing much last season. All I do remember is him taking over the side last season and we suddenly looked disrupted and kept losing.

Well the good news is that it will be difficult for him to score fewer runs than Benjamin has.

Unfortunately, he will bowl though which could yield a few runs for the opposition.

Said it last season on here and a few people got the hump but he really is extremely overrated.

If he's replacing Benjamin that's fine by me.

He did only bowl 11 overs last season but he was our second most economical bowler and had the third best average. His batting was poor though.

I'm a great believer in the maxim "if it ain't broke,why fix it". We are on a winning steak so why change things. Possible exception is Benjamin as he has made no contribution but Davies must remain captain. I do think Moeen coming in as captain last season was disruptive.

The club also posted on social media today that Davies has won 17 out of 20 T20 games he’s captained, which is a pretty impressive record.

It's probably in Moeen's contract that he skippers the T20 side. Harsh on Davies if that's the case.
