As for rainfall levels, in the week to April 4th, the South West of England had 38 mm of rain. Only the South East with 31 mm came anywhere close. In March, the South West had 171 mm, with the South East next at 124mm. So not surprising that Taunton had problems.
I must get out more (maybe to watch some cricket).

Don't recall seeing Michael Burgess drop one like that before

I haven’t been following the stream today. Who’d he drop?

A good effort for a lot of the day but like so many times last seasons we weren't able to press home an advantage when we had one. Individually the bowlers looked good but they are are a bit samey. No real pace - Burgess must have been up to the stumps for at least two of them - and so not much to blast the tail away with.

Not a bad first day but the early wickets followed by fight back seems to be a (frustrating) trend. On the pace point I remember Hasan Ali being "sharp" maybe not 90mph but quick enough or was I imagining things? Had a look on the Somerset Grockles forum, their view is that yesterday's no play was down to incompetence rather than precipitation. Should be some ECB sanction, losing a day's play to can't be bothered isn't acceptable.

Not the first time Lewis Gregory and Josh Davey held us up.

Agree about the attack looking a little samey. Hasan looked quicker when he played for Lancs so you would think there's more to come. Rushworth bowled a good, threatening line.

My colleague (and Exiled Bear's mate) Harry Everett sums up day two (or is it day one?):

I feel it's a chance missed, they shouldn't have got past 200. Norwell missing already is a worry. Also, why is Jack Leach playing and Woakes isn't?

Excellent knock by Davies. Looks like Mousley has come out to play some shots. Ah cancel that.

Mark Robinson was talking to Clive Eakin on the Radio comentary, he Said chris Woakes should be in the side next week.
Will be interesting to see who drops out.

The obvious drop out for Woakes if its like for like would be Barnard, but I don’t see that. It’s either got to be a bowler, so OHD, Bethell or Rushworth, or a batsman which probably means based on scores Mousley or Yates.
I don't see the bowlers being dropped, and with no opening replacement other than Rhodes, I suspect Mousley.

I think we can assume that Somerset's 'arry is not 'appy:

It's got to be Rushworth. Agree Barnard is the only like-for-like but he's an up-and-coming signing and Rushworth is really here for cover. Can't see us dropping a spinner, even if it's a bat-first spinner.

Remember that Jacob Bethell has played most of his cricket as an opening batsman, so is a viable alternative opener.
I'd expect Ed Barnard to be one of the first names selected for every game, as long as he is fit.
Logically, the ideal solution would be to leave out the player who has contributed least in the current game as chris Woakes will strengthen both the batting and bowling.

An excellent day yesterday. Polished off Somerset quickly and very solid with the bat. Davies batted beautifully for his ton although got out to a terrible shot. Theoretically we could bomb on this morning and set Somerset a tempter this afternoon but I just don't see that happening. Let the batters get some time in the middle and then a gentle-ish workout for the bowlers later on.

From 5.00pm/ish yesterday, I have no idea what our intentions have been? I thought that should be at least a semblance of an attempt to win the game. Perhaps I’m wrong.

Tempting them to do what? We have another innings to spare.

It's hard to tell from just looking at the scorecard but immediate target obviously to get 400 for 4 batting points while preventing Somerset getting maximum bowling points ... what's easy to tell from the scorecard is just how conclusively they failed in that! The pattern from the last few years has been to make sure the game is safe then look to win it. They can do that if we get ten quick wickets now, not much chance of Somerset getting to a win. So on balance looks like they've done what they set out to - that push for bonus points aside.
