Maxwell signed as the second Overseas player for the T20. A great signing.

Yes, this looks like a great signing.

Agreed, really happy with this one.

I remember people saying the same about other overseas players who had big reputations and delivered little.
Surely it is better to wait until he has played for the club before deciding the value of his contribution to the club.

I remember we played against Yorkshire a few years back in the T20's and he did absolutely nothing for them.

So although he will be good in the sense he should get a few more bums on seats, I agree we should await his contribution.

I don't think it's unreasonable to be excited by this signing. Clearly a brilliant cricketer who can play shots we'll have never seen anyone in a Bears shirt play before. If it doesn't work out it will just be one of those things. We've signed one of the best T20 players available.

A clear upgrade on Carlos Brathwaite (semi retired) and Paul Stirling (rubbish). I don't remember people championing either of those signings at the time of them being announced. I could be wrong.

I agree with Andy that it's ok to hail this as a good signing, though if he under-performs, we will have egg on our faces.
As for Stirling, I won't mention who said that he would be a good signing because I don't want to embarrass Exiled Bear.

Lets hope he is full recovered from his broken leg!

Well, he's just played for Victoria v South Australia so presumably is fit (but maybe not in the best of form - out for 5 and 0!)

There will always be a downside to the mercenary system. The hired guns are good players (and they don't come much better than Maxwell) but when they are wandering the earth playing handfuls of games with a bunch of guys they barely recognise, they are not going to be at peak intensity all the time. It's not their fault - I'm sure they believe they are trying their best - but you can't always be at 100% so why would you be on a cold evening in Derby for a group match in The Blast?
Maxwell will put bums on seats and sprinkle a little stardust around the dressing room. If he puts in a couple of eye-catching on-field performances, that's about as much as we should expect.

To be fair, I don’t think I was the only one that thought he was a good signing after he played his first match for us!!

I think that's true; and his innings in that match won him the Walter Lawrence Trophy for the fastest hundred of the season.

I expect most Bearsfans have read this update on Maxwell's fitness in Hindustan Times but, for those who missed it, here it is:
https://www.hindustantimes.com/cricket/its-going-to-take-months-before-glenn-maxwell-s-major-update-on-leg-injury-before-ipl-2023-a-worrying-sign-for-rcb-101679729451966.html
It's a bit worrying; but it could be that Maxwell on one leg will be a better performer than one or two other overseas stars have been on two.

I read that Maxwell will likely miss the first couple of T20's anyway due to IPL commitments.

Yes, that's why Stirling is back.

Does anyone know exactly when Maxwell and Moeen will be arriving from the IPL?

RCB are out so I'd imagine only logistics prevent Maxwell playing Friday. CSK are still in it so who knows about Moeen.

Given that we gave Stirling a two match deal, I would expect Maxwell to be available for the Lancs game on Monday.

Moeen potentially the same if CSK lose today, otherwise one or two after that.

G-Max has arrived in Birmingham and is available for Friday's match. I guess they will probably rest Hassan Ali for Monday and play both Stirling and Maxwell.
