I understand that the club hasn't yet appointed a replacement for Tom Rawlins, but as I pointed out when the post was advertised, they seem to be looking for someone who fits various PC quotas rather than having the ability to lead a media team at a professional sports club.

Just checked the BBC cricket webpage and you'd be forgiven for thinking at 10.10am there were no matches on today

County cricket is being stitched up

Mind you it is bonkers the final game is starting this late into September

So the maths is simple.
If we win with full bonus points, the most points we can get is 144.
Kent and Yorkshire are currently on 134 & 135.
So if they were to get 11 and 10 points respectively, we’re relegated no matter what.
So a draw and 3 bonus points would be enough for both.

As both are at home, I suspect they’ve prepared absolute roads, to ensure the draw and as many batting points as possible.

Yorkshire already have 1 bowling point

The Gloucs team that we could not finish off last week are currently 47/4 after them electing to bat first............do we think that Yorkshire will let them off the hook?

Thought not!

Yep I expect both Somerset and Glos to roll over comfortably, not that I can see us winning anyway.

Hampshire elected to bowl.

Yates in to fail again, there is no logical reason to include him in the side.

Nothing about selection has been logical.
You know what will happen though, Davies, Yates, Bethell maybe Rhodes will score some runs this match. We might even win. And Robinson will stand there and point to their runs, and say that’s why he persevered with those players. (assuming he actually comes out and does an interview instead of hiding like usual).
Completely ignoring the point that continuing to select out of form players is the reason that they’re going to be relegated.

I hate the thought of it. But i bet Robinson will keep his job too. Farbrace will get the blame because he’s already going and it’s more convenient.

Ditto, BristolBear. We must be the worst county for picking overseas players. We got 2 good 'uns for the last 3 matches and they have played 3 times between them. We'd have been better off asking Kallicharran or Donald if they still had some kit and saying, "Fancy a game lads, you couldn't do worse than what we have chosen since Mr Patel retired".

I would have, to be fair. But not on the basis of what he has done this season. I'd pick him because he is vital for next season and in what is actually a pressure-off game it might set him up for the post-season to get a score.

100 opening partnership, Yates 50. Unlike all you doomsters I never doubted them for one minute.

60 partnership for the 7th wicket at Kent for Somerset.

Overton will always be an issue if he is up for it with ball in hand..........

I don't want to speak too soon but at least Brad Wheal is bowling short, wide and overpitched for Hants as much as he did for us.

Davies, that one ball sums up his season really. I do hope that Robinson has a good look at that dismissal and also himself for picking the bloke constantly in the face of so many of us here who wondered how it could keep happening time and time and time and time again.

Pleased to see Yates make some runs. Let’s not forget that he’s only played 3 games as an opener this season after scoring so many runs there last season.

He is lucky to have had so may chances this season, when his performances have not justified a place in the side.

Yes he did well today, but one good innings does not erase the repeated failures from his record.

The repeated failures by Yates and Davies have put additional pressure on the middle order and have been a key factor in the poor performances this year.
