So they do go with 2 spinners.
Brookes, OHD and Siraj plus Rhodes as the seamers.
I wonder if Somerset chose to bat so as not to have to bat 4th on a used pitch against 2 spinners. Because the overhead conditions suggest bowl first.

Good start, but rain soon fell. Surprised that Somerset decided to bat in these conditions. Good for Siraj to get the early wicket. Is Norwell not fit?

There’s a few very one eyed commentators on the circuit, but this season this Somerset commentator is the worst I’ve heard.

I've said before the Somerset commentators, particularly on their own live stream, are by far and away the most biased and one eyed on the circuit.

Well done Mr Yadav, 3 balls in and a stumping is achieved, 46-3.

What this innings has shown me so far is how if you actually sign test level, proven internationals as your overseas, they will make a difference.

And it does make you wonder whether we’d be in the same position if they’d signed 2 players of this ilk at the start of the season. And not 1 McAndrew.

Completely agree, no point in getting an overseas player in for the CC if he isn't a Test player. Siraj just looks like a huge handful, not only very fast but appears to be bowling on leg stump and then it swings late and has the batmen floundering.

Just seen wide given against Yadav - just went down leg side. Are one-day wides now being given in red ball games?

The umpires can, and should, call wide if they consider the ball to be outside the normal reach of the batsman, or the ball is deliberately bowled wide as a defensive measure.

Thanks for that Highveld. However, it did look a strange call. Previous ball had been called a no-ball. This one just went round the leg side just wide of the batsman's legs!. A brief conversation took place between bowler and umpire! I suppose it may have been called as being deliberate - given Warks position would hardly be a defensive measure.

Siraj is next level and just what the bowling attack needs. However, that over by Briggs with 3 successive 6's was really poor. We need to mop up the tail quickly and not let a dominant position slip by.

Siraj has 4/38 now. Need to get Gregory out. 141/8.

This is frustrating now..........they should have been bowled out for 150ish

Gregory is an extremely average red ball batter and Khan is a genuine number 10 yet they both look as if they are in no trouble at all.

We cant seem to get more than one or two of our bowlers/batsmen working well in the same innings, god knows what has happened to Danny Briggs but Gregory rightly targeted him. OHD has been a little unlucky to be fair.

I hope these extra runs do not come back to bite us.

It looks as though that will be it for the day which seems a better outcome for us than Somerset at this stage.

I felt they were living a very charmed life to be honest.
A number of leading edges, mistimed shots, plays and misses. All those ones that after lunch led to wickets, they got lucky with after tea. Thought OHD had Gregory plumb too.

I think in the greater sense of things. If you were to say at the start of the day, Somerset would win the toss, choose to bat, lose the morning session to rain, and then be 180/8 at the close; we’d have all taken that.
Hopefully get the last 2 and keep them under 200 in the morning and then it’s about batting once and building a big lead.

Yes that LBW shout on Gregory looked absolutely dead.

Yep, good point on the OHD LBW.

That gets given and we probably roll them for 170.

We are in a good spot, just need to put our foot down tomorrow and stop them gaining a batting point.

Though 182-8 sounds fine, I get the feeling it's another opportunity when we had a side ready for a 130 all out situation and yet again we failed to cash in.

Somerset always get a tune out of their lower order, so frustrating.

Big first session this morning. Get those last 2 wickets quickly, and then try not to lose many early.
Need to take advantage. As I think yesterday showed, and Yadav commented on it too, the pitch got better for batting the longer into the day it got.
