Pretty big news. Never really felt like he would be in it for the long haul though.
The article refers to a lot of off field success, some like Portland road is undeniable. Not entirely sure about the state of the academy; however I suspect that’s more a case of long term results.
Desperately disagree with the comment on T20 success this year. We achieved the exact same result as last year quarter final exit, but in a far more embarrassing fashion, and with far more money spent.
I have a feeling he might have stayed a year or two longer if it hadn’t been for the head butting and power struggle with Robinson. We will see who was driving the recruitment and player selection now though.
Am very intrigued as to the suggestion of a change in captaincy. Would that be Rhodes stepping down, or it removed? This season or from next? Would Rhodes stay after that? Who would be the successor?
Almost a case of more questions than answers following this news.
I think he did good work at recreational level, strengthened links between clubs and county. I think he was a lot more invested in the academy than Giles was. It could still be better though.
I suspect him and Robbo didn't see eye to eye, Robinson maybe wasn't his first choice, just a hunch. And some of the recruitment has been pretty dodgy.
He definitely divides opinion, many who work at the club speak well of him.
I might be wrong, but I wouldn't be that surprised if Rhodes welcomed some weight being lifted from his shoulders. It's certainly looked a burden at times.
I would like to see Ashley Giles back at Edgbaston. He is a true Bear who'd hopefully bring back some stability.
Don't want Giles back, he just jumps from job to job depending on how big it is and I think the success we had here when he was involved, would have happened anyway, with or without him.
Is there anywhere for Giles to jump to now? He left for the ECB, but isn’t going back there. Not sure there’s another job in cricket that he’s qualified for, that he could get or that would pay as well.
Either way, the club needs someone that’s in it long term.
How much blame for this disaster of a season, do people think should be put at Farbraces's door - and how much should Robinson be held culpable ? Was Farbrace (mainly) responsible for the departure of Welch and the appointment of Mason ? Was it him who decided Mo Sheikh take over Second team bowling Coaching and keeping Tony Frost as First team Batting Coach ? How many of the crap team selections are down to him ? Was he the man who insisted that Rhodes should stay as Captain, despite his obvious failings in toss choices, bowling selections or field placements. How much is he to blame for the (obvious) malaise in dressing room morale.
My guess, is that he is more than 50% is down to him, but Robinson is also to blame. I suppose Robinson needs to be given another chance under a new Director of Cricket. I agree, Giles is probably not that man, but he could be OK in the short term. However, I do feel we really need a strong long term appointment though. I don't know many who are out there, but I do know one who could be tempted. If he doesn't have a long contract at Derby, Micky Arthur would be my choice.

Think Arthur still very seems himself as a coach as opposed to a Director of Cricket.
A very good coach he is too. Doing a good job at Derby to be fair, turned an absolute bunch of no hopers into a passable, hard to beat outfit in a matter of months despite losing their best player (Critchley).
