Hello,

I'm coordinating the national campaign to oppose the proposed reduction in first class matches from 14 to 10 games.

I believe we stand on the edge of a precipice. I do not think it will stop at a reduction of a few county games. It will eventually end with the ECB taking control (through the franchise teams) of all professional domestic cricket. The opportunity for those in charge then to make life changing sums of money is clear if these franchises are sold to billionaires.

For now, members have control of what our club votes for, if we are willing to act.

So far 3300 people have replied, including just 67 Warwickshire members. WCCC is a really important club in this. Can you help to publicise the campaign please?

You can complete the survey below.

https://lancsactiongroup.com/save-1st-class-cricket

Please tell all your friends when you are at a match in the next few weeks.

Share the link on social media

Volunteer to pass round some leaflets to collect signatures at the Royal London games. I collected 100 in 30 minutes just chatting to people at the Oval. I can give you a leaflet all ready to be printed off. It was dead easy, 99% of people signed it straightaway and were delighted to do so.

Lancashire members are putting their CEO under pressure to oppose the reduction. We have over 500 signatures and growing still. There will be an almighty row if the club ignores its members. Surrey are also very active with over 300 members signed up. If we can get WCCC as well then we can stop this thing dead in its tracks just like the fans stopped the ESL.

Many thanks to the admin team for supporting this campaign.

The link isn't working, but you can copy and paste into your browser. I've signed but as I am not a member it will not recognise me as being a bears fan which is a shame.

I've fixed the link (it's a bug with the forum).

https://cricket.lancashirecricket.co.uk/news/2022-news/club-statement-high-performance-review-and-future-domestic-schedule/

So this is what the buffoons in charge of the Category A county grounds think. You can bet they've colluded to come to some sort of nonsense statement - Warks, Hants, Lancs, Notts etc... who think players need a fortnights rest between T20 matches

We have to hope the Category B and C counties tell these twits in no uncertain terms that less CC or less Blast cricket is off the table. 14 CC games is already too few

And before they edit it;

Club Statement: High-Performance Review and future domestic schedule

In light of the High-Performance Review being undertaken by the England & Wales Cricket Board (ECB) and the on-going debate concerning the structure of the domestic schedule for 2023 onwards, Lancashire Cricket would like to update its Members and supporters on the Club’s position.

Lancashire Cricket fully understands and respects the strong feeling from within the Membership and from wider cricket supporters throughout the country regarding the amount of County Championship cricket that is played throughout the English domestic season.

At the time of writing, the Club has not held any formal meetings with the ECB that relate to the High-Performance Review, which is currently being carried out, nor have we had any formal discussions regarding the 2023 domestic schedule.

Tomorrow (Wednesday 3 August), representatives from all 18 First-Class counties will meet with the ECB for a first update session on the High-Performance Review and future domestic schedule.

The decision that will be made later in the year, and ultimately voted for by the First-Class counties, will not be a commercial decision. Rather, it will be one based on the development and welfare of our players, which must always be at the forefront of our minds throughout this process.

We all know the cricket schedule has become increasingly gruelling, both at a domestic and especially at an international level. Covid-19 also impacted the schedule around the world and has had a significant impact on player welfare. Additionally, there is an increasing number of T20 leagues which are being hosted around the world competing for priority slots within the calendar.

The recent retirement of England’s Test captain Ben Stokes from One-Day International cricket provided strong evidence of these pressures with Ben quoting in his statement: 'We're not cars - you can't fill us up with petrol’.

The Club believes that by ensuring our players are at their best, both physically and mentally, they will be able to perform at their highest ability throughout the season, leading to higher quality cricket being played across the board. In this regard, we are supportive of the process being led by Sir Andrew Strauss.

However, it is also vital that cricket listens to the voice of its fans. At Lancashire Cricket, we are committed to ensuring that the voice of our Members and Supporters is heard at the highest levels whilst this review is carried out.

Daniel Gidney, Chief Executive of Lancashire Cricket said: “We are listening to the views of our Membership and, alongside player welfare, these will be at the forefront of the discussions during our upcoming meetings.

“Following the conclusion of the ECB’s High-Performance Review and the meetings, which will take place between all 18 First-Class Counties, we will endeavour to support the creation of a domestic cricket schedule which is suitable for all counties, players, Members and supporters alike.

“As conversations between all stakeholders continue, we will keep Members updated on progress.”

Chair of the Members’ Representative Group, Colin Gore, added: “This is an issue of huge significance for Members and as a result, we have been speaking to the Senior Management Team at the Club regarding the on-going speculation around next year’s domestic schedule.

“In our most recent meeting last week, they confirmed that no decision has been made on this and that there is an all-county and ECB meeting this week, to give an update on the review.

“Lancashire Cricket and the MRG are well aware of strong feelings amongst Members and cricket supporters generally and the Club have said that these concerns will be put forward to the ECB. We do acknowledge however that a key priority for all stakeholders is the players themselves and ensuring their welfare is at the forefront of any decision.”

I hope Lancashire get a right volley off him for their use of his name in the afformentioned piece. How dare they...

Still a hard fight to win this one but one we must persist in fighting. 14 is already two too few in my opinion and must be the very bare minimum compromise. Move the earliest April fixture and the latest September fixture back into August while we're at it. Any fewer and they can't seriously call it a championship any more and that would be sad indictment of those mismanaging the game

The next step will be to fight for a "15th CC game" to help the outgrounds out as it would be designated outground week and would be something gained back for proper cricket fans

So lancs CCC cancel the SGM and commit to giving their members the final say before they meet the ECB on September 20th. Have to say I don't trust them one bit nor the ECB

When and how do we as members get an opportunity to force Warwickshire to act in our interests on this and vote this blatant power grab down???

Lancs have also now updated via twitter

'The Club can confirm that one of the options on which Members may vote will be to retain the status quo. The vote will be recorded by Lancashire Cricket’s independent auditors.'

I'm not sure if this link to the Cricket Supporters Association survey has been posted on here or not, but here it is anyway:

Results will be passed on to the ECB (although whether they'll take any notice, I don't know)

Warwickshire must reject these rushed proposals and instigate a proper 2 year consultation process.

Change must not be rushed through

Thanks for the link

Well worth a listen to this podcast with Annie Chave and David Griffin - great hours worth of chewing the fat and clarifies a few things. According to David, the Derbyshire chairman will carry the will of the members to the ECB board as will the other chairs of the 15 member owned counties

Need to keep the pressure up though. Keep writing. Get those SGM's signed just in case

Hi Andy

Please read this leaflet:

To sign the Warwickshire SGM request: please print and complete the form here

We need 250 signatures to call the meeting. Please take some spare copies to the ground if you are going to an event or at the county game on 12-15 September. Most members are not online. Many will not know about the threat to county cricket. Please take every chance to speak to people at the ground.

I will be at the ground on 12th September and encourage people to sign the petition that day before or after the members forum or you can complete it in advance and post it to Stuart Cain the CEO at Warwickshire. Alan will have a more strategic update to give in due course

Several people have copies of the forms now and they are available online we should easily reach 300 I reckon which will help if there has been any duplication. keep telling folks and get them signed. I was doing 10 signatures per sheet

I filled mine in this morning and emailed to Stuart Cain as not sure if I will get to Edgbaston again this season. The rules give the club 84 days (if I've read that correctly) before holding a meeting.

Excellent please let us know when you get a response Stuart Cain was quick to respond to my email on Sunday. I'm sure he's well meaning too and wants to hold onto what we want to deep down but we can't just assume anything at this stage.

Please take a photo or copy of your forms before handing them in. We will need to tally up the numbers who sign it. Also if you think you'd like to write a personal letter to Stuart Cain Warwickshire County Cricket Club CEO please do so and feed back any responses if you're happy to do so. This is so important I think particularly Warwickshire but in general they rely on the passivity of the members. It's understandable as is the sense of fear/what on earth can be done? but this really is one important message to send to the club's management that in the event of cuts to the schedule we as members intend to hold them to account

Right I've printed it off and filled it in, where am I sending too?

Once the forms are signed, please give them to the club office. Keep a total of the number of signatures that you have handed in and let me know. If you are not going to a match now this season, please post the form and again let me know.

Those were instructions for Tuesday and still apply. You can always keep it until Sept 12th if you prefer or see other members who'd like to add their name.

Whatever you do take a photo of it for your own records or email yourself a copy before sending. We can then get our heads together over next couple of weeks and work out how many in total have been completed before including any that are not on the forum who we expect will have posted theirs. It's why we probably need 275-300 to be sure

According to a report in The Cricketer:
"The County Championship fixture list is set to remain at 14 fixtures per side in 2023.
The ongoing high-performance review has been assessing where structural changes are required in the English domestic game, in an effort to narrow the gap between county cricket and the international arena.
As part of the review, a reduction of the number of red-ball games is believed to have been under discussion, but such a course of action is highly unlikely to be implemented next season, as the ECB seeks to give counties the opportunity to further consult with players, members and other key stakeholders."
If true, that's good news as far as it goes.

Well done everyone

Will await strategic update from Alan but I'm still up for collecting more signatures at the Somerset game if we still need to get past 250
