Must admit, i'm pretty surprised with that selection
That looks a very good bowling attack with Siddle and Harmer

interesting we're going in with a batsman less. Has Bresnans display, given them confidence that he can be a true all-rounder? Do they think the tail with Miles, Stone and Briggs is stronger than before? Do they think Vihari will step up this time? Or is it about conditions, and they think it's going to be easier to bat?
For me, I'd have still gone with the extra batsman, but only time with tell.
Anyone else finding the audio quality on the stream is very poor? Or have my laptop speakers given up on me?

It is a bit scratchy for me.
Looks like a bad toss to lose, there's no movement at all out there.
Apart from Olly Stone's LBW shout (which looked to me to be pretty adjacent) there's been very little trouble for the batsmen.
Yes, the audio on the stream is poor.
I've pretty much summoned a wicket there.
Come on you bears
After our excellent catching in the last 2 matches, 2 catches down in the slips in this match is annoying.
As the saying goes: catches win matches....
Good from Olly Stone. 2 important wickets to break that stand.
Was looking forward to watch but the stream provided by the club is abysmal compared to Notts, it seems worse than against Derbyshire.
I only watched the first hour did it improve I.e did the camera show the ball once it left the bat ?
A decent day in the end. Good bowling to keep their score below 300.
One thing: why can't the Government allow say 2,000 into the stadium in the open air? Especially those vaccinated or tested, obviously well spread apart in a 25,000 capacity stadium. The Crucible (indoors) people are watching the World Snooker - around 300 per session in a capacity of just under 1,000. I don't get it.
Agreed, it's absolutely outrageous that we can't go in. Why aren't counties badgering the government more?
Anyway, Bears day.

No it was fairly poor all day. At times it simply froze, the sound quality was not good, replays didn’t actually show what happened.
It has definitely taken a backwards step since Derbyshire. Against Derbyshire, it wasn’t as good as Notts’, but it was more than passable. Not sure why it’s worse.
By all accounts the counties have been on at the government to try and get spectators in, it’s just they are not budging. If Lords and the Oval can’t then us in the provinces stand little chance.
We aren't even allowed spectators at club cricket, except for certain exemptions. However members of a club are able to use any outside hospitality facilities they clubs may have!
Must admit it's bizarre they can have 4000 people all over each other at the BRIT Awards, a full crowd at the Crucible both being indoor events, then 35,000 for the FA cup final.
But they won't let 5000 into Edgbaston? Cricket grounds and championship cricket are surely the perfect environment for these sort of test events. Plus you know the ECB will want to have evidence they can let fans into Tests and The Hundred.

I feel like a traitor saying this but the picture, sound and, in particular, the dreadful commentary have been so bad that I'm watching the Middlesex v Surrey game instead. The picture's first class and the commentary is infinitely better.
Essex have been good. Some of the dismissals look bad, but as a unit Essex have been pretty much spot on.
Great resistance this
