Tough one this...

If Danny Briggs is fit, I'd expect him to return to the team.
With Sam Hain playing for England Lions, I'd expect Jacob Bethell to stay in the side too.

Briggs, Mousley and Garrett in for Bethell, Henry B and Miles (I think)

Who’s that batting in the Dom Sibley mask this morning? Never seen him bat like this before. Minimal risk, but putting anything full or wide away.

Run a ball for Dom - anything to do with his upcoming move back down south?

Clearly Jonny Bairstow.

Chat on the 'Contracts' thread about certain players who are getting picked no matter how they perform. Well Alex Davies has another awful dismissal to add to his long list since he joined.

Olly Stone is 12th man and is having a bowl on the square during lunch. I wonder why he isn’t playing? Given the weather I would’ve thought that the pitch will suit his bowling

There is a big difference in bowling a 4 over spell and being able to bowl 15-20 overs over 2-3 spells and repeat the following day.

He is, obviously, not considered to be able to last a four day game.

The decison to omit Miles and Brookes for Garrett is surprising, especially as Garrett has shown nothing in the second team this season.

Two out bowled not playing a shot. Dreadful

Highveld, Are you assuming that Miles and Brookes are fit? Or are you certain?

You can accept wickets like Rhodes, Burgess and Mousley. Early in their innings, a good bowler, and sometimes you just get a good ball before you’re in.
But Davies, Lamb and Benjamin were just poor shot selection. Davies had no need to try play that shot. Then huge misjudgements from Lamb and Benjamin. If we give away half our wickets, we shouldn’t be surprised if we end up like this. Previously Hain and Burgess have dug us out but one isn’t playing and one got a great ball early on.

Henry is involved in the 2nd team game, which suggests he is fit.

Not sure with Miles, presumably injured, or a very poor selection choice.

Christ, we were 70/1 last I looked, how have we ended up 118/7?!

This season has been one to forget so far.

Davies is going to have to watch how he gets out and what shots to play. After that absolute shocker of a dismissal in the T20 QF, the management might eventually run out of patience with him. A great start and unless we get a lot of early wickets, we could be chasing the game and yes Lilly, you are right, this has been a season that I will file under 'Urrrgh!'.

If only it were so. But I have the awful feeling that Davies could crap in Robinsons hat and he’d still be the first name on the team sheet.
Last year we had a real team comes first atmosphere, seemingly led by Bresnan. This year it really is a collection of individuals, those in favour and those who are expendable.

An enjoyable day overall in the end. A good recovery, particularly in the evening session. I thought all bowlers bowled well, there were very few freebies, which makes a change from recent games! Hopefully we can keep the pressure on tomorrow morning.

Also a word on the Rose Bowl - it was my first time there for a county game (saw England there a few years ago) and it’s a bit soulless. They also seemingly couldn’t be bothered to have a working PA system in most of the ground!

Yes, I used to be a member there and in the early days it was a pretty and friendly ground. Then they started pouring concrete and the atmosphere disappeared. The writing was on the wall when the van selling £2.00 bacon rolls was replaced by a £4.50 bacon ciabatta.....
