I didn't watch any of yesterday, but how did the bowling fall away? Did Notts just bat well? Did we run out of steam? Or were they just following bad plans? I can remember England having g the same problem.

I think what it was is that the pitch is actually a decent batting track and it flattened out a bit throughout the day. Also, some of the Notts top order gave their wickets away with terrible shot selection and the lower order have just batted a lot better.

Sibley has a broken finger so is unlikely to bat

Has that been confirmed? George D on Twitter says that it isn't in plaster but he didn't warm up.

The fact he hasn't come out to bat when Rhodes was out suggests he won't be taking any further part in this game.

I think I know the answer to this, but say he doesn't play any more of the match upon ECB orders, can we bring a batsman in to replace him?

Thanks for the insight coolerking. I've been watching a bit this morning (Hey, its Friday) and paying keen attention to Hain's backlift. Seems he is very strongly set to leg side now, shuffling across the crease, opens up, bat is coming down pointing to gully. So he plays to on all the time and looks very awkward playing on the off side. It was noted that he used to play like Trott, though people don't say that anymore. Could that be because he's adjusted his game so strongly to one day cricket? He's still young, he can adjust. Hope out batting coach has picked this up but be interesting to hear what him himself is thinking.

A very good session after losing the early wicket. We've been given a fair bit of help from Notts, with at least two dropped catches (both fairly straightforward) and a catch off a no ball!

Once again from George on Twitter: "Dom Sibley has a small fracture of the second finger on his right hand. If it settles down and the match situation dictates, he could bat in this game. But he may well not. It'll be assessed again in the coming days but you'd think he'd be a doubt for the next 2-3 rounds of games"

That was a bad dismissal, Lamb.

It’s going to be another long season.

The innings from Sam was a positive, he looked very comfortable batting, until he was out.

Lamb did seem to be reaching for a ball that should probably have been left, but it wasn't the worst dismissal of the innings.

I think what we’ve seen so far in both matches is that, we get starts but don’t go on. That’s mental, and I’d hope Trott will help with that.
In tough conditions, Derbyshire batsmen were getting 60/70 when in. We got 20 odd and only Lamb got 50.
Today Hain should have gone on to 100. Can’t expect more from Briggs. But Yates, Vihari and Lamb all out for low scores and average shots. Rhodes the only one who can say he’s unlucky starting again the next day and got a good one from Broad.

Indeed not the worst dismissal but probably the most the frustrating. You can't do all the hard work of seeing of Broad and Paterson, and look very competent in doing so, and then get out to a Lyndon James loosener. Criminal.

Anyway, good game to win from here...

Shame is ended as rapidly as it did. Bresnan got an absolute snorter, and I’m not convinced Burgess got a great decision.
Annoying that we finally play 7 batsmen and one of them gets injured.

Has JT now got a Coaching role at Edgbaston ? I'm not doubting you, but I haven't seen it announced anywhere. I mean, great, if its happened. Long overdue - (poor old) Frosty has struggled with the Batting Coaching needs for far too long now. Great bloke, but a better Groundsman imo. The standard of batting technique of so many players over the the last couple of seasons, clearly needs a beefed up Coaching set up in that area, as far as I can see. JT has both the technical knowledge and the mental discipline skills that could be invaluable to the team.

They confirmed it on the radio commentary, Frost is still the batting coach, but Trott is working as a batting consultant.

Our batsmen need all the help they can get. But let’s face it, JT has been involved in the team for a lot of our recent history and our batting has consistently been flakey.

It's the lower order too, everywhere I look I see teams putting on 150+ with numbers 8, 9, 10 and 11. Not us though!
