Looks like he is meant as a Tim Bresnan replacement.
I wish the lad well, I really do, but I'm so underwhelmed by this.
New South Wales can reasonably claim the best first class cricket set up in the world (NSW would beat most test sides routinely) given the sheer no of test players they produce for Australia so he has played lots of 2nd XI cricket for NSW's country team - ACT/NSW Country 2nd XI - as well as plenty of professional List A and T20 cricket.
At Grade level he's spent several years at Bankstown in the Sydney suburbs and this winter turned out for Woodville in Adelaide
Seems bit of an odd one.. I assume he's going to bat at number 7 and we go in with 5 bowlers (excluding Rhodes)
I think Rhodes is a great option as 5th bowler particularly in early season conditions and as our captain he won't be dropped
So for second game we could go in as:
Sibley, Davies, Yates, Hain, Rhodes, Lamb/Mousley/Burgess, Mcandrew, Briggs, + 3 seamers
7, 8 or 9 good competition for places with Miles, OHD, Norwell, Brookes
Also a view to middle of season might be deprived of Stone, Norwell, Yates, Sibley for various ECB sides so we may end up in June/July with a side like - Davies, Rhodes, Hain, Lamb, Benjamin, Burgess, McAndrew, Briggs, Miles, Brookes, OHD
Maybe we got confused, his South Australia team-mate Nathan McSweeney is younger and has a better record.
Part of me wonders if this is a “we’ve got to sign someone” signing. But also learning the lesson of last year, where he’s not such a big name that he can’t be left out, unlike Malan.
Also as good as they are, history says our bowling lineup is very injury prone.
Based on their careers I can’t see Norwell and Miles both going through the season uninjured again. OHD obviously had his issues last year too. Brookes and Stone both coming off injuries.
So probably a wise move to increase the depth.
Never know could be a Patel similar style signing
Not going to push it and say similar success levels but a very reliable overseas signing who if does well, could be with us long term
Handy he can be used in T20 if required
Jeets had already played about 10 Tests, 30 ODI's, and some T20i's when we first signed him. He was an experienced player already.
This guy has played 11 First Class matches.
If he ends up half as good as Jeets he'll have done really well and we'll all be happy but right now it just looks bizarre. The County Champions should be able to bring in genuine proven quality.
Can only assume there's injury concerns over our seamers.
I think this chap will be quality in a similar way to when we've signed CC Div 2 players in the past. It is that level of player who have the hunger and desire to prove themselves at a higher level - in the past Chris Wright, more recently Olly Stone, Norwell and Miles and clearly lots of thought has been given to his acquisition. It doesn't always work as intended anyone recall Chris Martin? amongst several other flops. This guy looks to be an ALL Formats player also which is huge I think. I have to say I am excited about Simmons from what I saw on Tuesday plus Johal last season and we have several youngsters chomping at the bit but not genuine 85mph bowlers who are quite ready yet
I'll reserve judgement until after he's played for us, but I will say that it's hard these days to find an overseas player that is available for a good number of championship matches - we saw last season with Vihari and Malan (both international standard players) that if someone is only brought in for a few games that doesn't give enough time for them to get used to the conditions. Malan's only good score for us was in his last game as I recall?
The point Andy made, about injury concerns for our seamers, has already probably come true. Miles is not in the squad for the Taunton Friendly starting tomorrow. As he is the only absentee from the likely team starting our Championship defence, I assume he's injured. Simmons or Sidebottom will probably come in tomorrow. We need McAndrew now!

When you see Surrey lining up with Kemar Roach...this signing is hardly inspiring.
He will miss the Lancs game because of his selection for Australia A:

I guess the fact that he has played a fair bit of cricket lately works in his favour.
Congratulations to him, and I think he will be a miss for us based on our form with the ball so far in CC.
Based purely on his form for us though I must say I am a little surprised.
Thank god for that
Given injuries and lack of form for our bowlers, I'm not sure we're in a position where we can celebrate the departure of our third highest wicket taker and third lowest averaging bowler.
Another poor overseas choice. Who is making these decisions on overseas players?
On the one hand how bare must the Aussie cupboard be for McAndrew on the back of 1 half decent Shield season to be in and around their A squad - thank god we still have 18 counties I say. Nothing against the lad he's given 100%
On the other hand I was saying a few weeks ago he's a solid player not spectacular but potentially brought in with a view to him being a long term project. Can you imagine if Aus have a rash of injuries and he's in the squad for next years Ashes?!?!
We'll all be scratching our heads at that.
