The Hampshire result last week is so frustrating. Ridiculous that we lost that game. Still all to play for now. Apparently, Woakes is very keen to play, but apparently it's down to England to decide.....have they ever done us any favours? They'll probably insist that he rests for this crucial match!!

Blimey, we're in with a shout at winning this. That didn't look likely at the start of the season but with everyone facing absences and disruption we are as well placed as anyone. There isn't a County that obviously DESERVES to be Champion, so it might as well be us!
Somerset look there for the taking: their established players are well out of form and their rookies don't look up to it. I wouldn't even give much for Lammonby's chances against Chris Woakes with a red ball in his hand. Let Lancashire and Hampshire negate each other and there we are. Campiones!

The club have made remarkable progress this season, despite, effectively, playing the first few games with ten men!

Our young players are continuing to develop now they are given the chance of a run in the side, and despite injuries to be in with a chance of winning the championship going into the last game is a massive achievement.

We could, possibly, be at the dawn of another spell of great success for the club.

Very professional performance today. Get Ballance early, then apply the pressure. Bres and Burgess outstanding.

Not sure I've ever seen a batsman refuse to walk after edging to first slip like Thompson just did!

Stuart Broad did it in a Test v Australia - but I agree that it's slightly bizarre. In the case of Broad, the Australians were infuriated because the umpire gave it not out and they had no reviews left.

Also, Broad edged it to slip via Haddin's gloves so to the umpire, it looked like it had gone straight from bowler to wicketkeeper to slip and that he didn't think Broad had touched it. A big moan if you consider whole tours where Australia's umpires just blatantly cheated England in Australia even in tours where England won.

If we hadn't made a hash of the Hampshire game, we would be looking at a few bonus points and a washout for the title v Somerset. I really hope the men from Taunton do not suddenly find some form.

This. Irrespective of what happens next week this squad is going places.

To be fair to Thompson, I was there, sitting side on to the wicket, and I didn’t think it carried. Although there was no doubt at all in the slips.

Thompson's wasn't the one that only just carried - he slashed at a short wide ball from Norwell and was comfortably caught by Bresnan. I'm not sure if he was waiting for the umpire to give him out, or was just shocked that he'd got out to such a poor ball, but eventually he decided that he'd better walk off!

It was really weird. I think he just couldn't believe he'd got out to a rank long hop!

Marvellous! Well spotted EB. I was simply overcome by the final 100 minutes of the innings which was on repeat deja vu!

David Hopps, in his Cricinfo report, extracts some humour from the Thompson situation:
".. it appeared that time was frozen. The deflection off the bat could have been spotted from one of the flights passing over the ground to Leeds Bradford Airport, but Thompson presumably has been schooled in "We Walk For Nowt" principles. Thompson waited for umpire Neil Mallender, Mallender (a fellow Yorkie) was not about to raise his finger for something so obvious, and a gentle stand-off occurred before Thompson decided that nobody really wanted him to stick around any more."
