County cricket in April returns !
Derby 10 for 3 now. 2 for Norwell, 1 for OHD. A great toss to win I think ?!
Mousley & Brookes left out of the 13.
"You can take the boy out of Atherstone, but you can never take Atherstone out of the boy !"
"The Bears and the (footballing) Foxes for ever !"
Looking around at all of the fixtures it’s definitely looking like a great toss to win. Like ajones says, it’s looking like a typical early April fixture.
58 for 4. That's a great morning session for us. OHD and Norwell outstanding, Miles not far behind.
189 all out. A pretty good effort overall, a shame about the 21 runs for the last wicket though.
We'd have taken this at the start.
I’d feel rather unlucky if I’m Rhodes tonight. Not sure how the umpire thought that was straightening enough from over the wicket.
Even worse when you look at 2 of the ones we had turned down earlier on.
Overall though, a really good day, time to pile on the runs tomorrow.
As Andy says, would have taken it at the start of the day. Any thoughts, however, that we might just have let that slip a bit from 11/3? The last pair hung around a while, we're not sure how strong our batting is and we lost a wicket late in the day? I'm going to remain nervous overnight... But I'll bet this situation is something Sibbo dreams of.
Perhaps. At 140-4 they were looking at getting up to around 250. We took the last 7 wickets for 46 runs.
Agree on Rhodes, how an on field umpire can give that out is beyond me.
Richard Illingworth and Alex Wharf are both international umpires and two of the best on the county circuitso I've no concerns over the decisions they made today.
Overall a decent first day and some excellent catches.
I agree about the catching being outstanding. I thought that Norwell bowled exceptionally well. Let's hope he can stay fit.
Fingers crossed we can get a few partnerships going today, cold day out in the field !!
Was pretty impressed with the stream yesterday! I assume they might start charging a fee once members/supporters can return
Living over in Ireland the stream is brilliant for me.
The batting is not looking particularly assured, which is fairly usual. Yates looked quite fluid but no one else seems to be playing with any confidence.
Bit disappointing from Yates, don’t think batting is particularly easy out there at the moment, so once you get in you need to buckle down and score big, he gave it away with a bit of a waft.
Credit to their bowlers though, being very disciplined for the most part, just line and length and knowing the conditions will help them tremendously.
Disappointing day so far
Hopefully our lower middle order can get us out of trouble
This is the problem with set players not going on in April. Batting’s not easy and it takes longer to get in, until that point you’re vulnerable. Rhodes, Hain and Burgess are the sort of wickets you expect, misjudgements trying to get set in tough conditions.
But Sibley and Yates were in, they were set and both failed to capitalise. A decent half century from each of them and it looks very different. Both sides innings show that early on it’s tough. The difference so far is that Reece and Critchley went on to get 60 odd each.

Not sure I'd pay to watch this to be honest. The TV coverage is 'okay' at best, the camera angles and production is a bit amateurish on the whole. The commentary I'm afraid to say is pretty dull too for this match at least especially considering so much has gone on.
Still anything is better than nothing
The coverage is from, i beleive, 4 remotely controlled cameras, with someone controlling the switch of angles and replays. Also the radio commentators have no controlof the images shown on screen.
For the budget available the coverage is pretty good, yes with a bigger budget and manned cameras you could do more, but funds are limited. In many ways its a bit like cricket was covered before Packer and World Series Cricket.
A few years ago we didn't even have ball by ball audio coverage of the games, so we are getting better coverage.
As for the comentators, Richard Wilford, Clike Eakin and Mike Taylor are, in my opinion, better than Rob Gurney, obviously it bepends on rota's and other commitments who gets to cover the games.
I’ve quite enjoyed the coverage, I like to listen to the radio broadcasts when I’m at the ground too.
The camera work is better than in previous years with replays and different views which I’m thankful for. Considering it’s not costing anything as well I think it’s a great service to be offering.
I took my dad for his second jab today and was able to watch the stream on my phone whilst sat in the car, it helped the hour pass very quickly!
There have been over 1000 viewers on youtube both days, including people from the USA, Aus and New Zealand, as well as the annoying spammers from India.
One benefit of live streaming is that Warwickshire, and the sponsors get world wide coverage, & it's great that Sam Hain's family in Aus can see him play.
