I guess we'll be seeing Jake Lintott make his Championship debut on Sunday. As Danny B is with England, Jake is the only specialist spinner in the squad. He has also has been drafted in for the 2nd's in their (current) 4 day game against Lancs at Portland Road, presumably to get some red ball bowling action in Lancs 2nd innings today.

I agree that Jake will probably be playing on Sunday, but he never got chance to bowl in the Seconds game today, we had some 'declaration' bowling by a couple of our batsmen, to set up a target. We need 250 off 50 overs.

13 man squad:-

Rhodes, Bethell, Burgess, Hain, Manraj Johal, Lamb, Lintott, Malan, MIles, Norwell, Sibley, Sidebottom & Yates.

I guess Lintott will be playing and Johal won't make the starting lineup, but it will be interesting to see who else will be left out. Sidebottom or Bethell, or one of the (many !) failing batsmen ?!

We really are streched to the limit.

While it's great for Manraj to be included in the squad, he's not yet at the stage in his development that he should be included.

It could be a long four days, fortunately I've aquired a ticket for the first day, hopefully we can put in a good performance.

Team:-

Yates, Sibley, Malan, Hain, Rhodes, Lamb, Burgess, Lintott, Miles, Norwell & Sidebottom.

As expected, Johal left out, but they've gone for Sidebottom as the extra seamer, instead of Bethell. And all the failing batsman have another chance !

We won the toss and chose to bat.

Hasn't it started well again for us - Yates out for a quack after 5 balls ?! There are a lot of nervous Bears batsman at New Road today - at the wicket and in the Clubhouse - this is the last red ball game for 6 weeks and many have a lot to prove !

This would be a great time for Malan and Sibley to find some form...

Yes, we need Sibley and/or Malan to go on to big scores.

If one of these 2 could bat the day, and get 140+ that goes a long way to getting the result needed to get into group 1.

Derbyshire, unfortunately, look like they’re not going to put up much of a fight against Essex, However Notts haven’t got off to great start either.

This is great stuff from us so far. It's what we've been crying out for.

Is this….is this what a top order partnership feels like? It’s been so very long, I can’t remember.

When you watch this, I start to think that our previous tactic of getting 4 down for 50 runs before lunch and hoping 5/6/7 can dig us out might have been misguided.

220/1 at tea and no extras so far which is unusual.

Frustrating end to the day. The youtube feed is a bit of a revelation in that you can see players techniques up close. Hain always has that crooked backlift but when out of form, which must be where he is now, looked a walking wicket with no idea where his off stump was. With six balls to go before everyone knew the rain would take over the day, it was inevitable he wouldn't last it.

So are all those collapses bad technique or psychological? Looks like both.

A good days play, in warm and humid conditions.

Malan, finally, showed why the club signed him, he was excellent today. Sibley found it harder, but he battled through and played some good shots.

Rhodes and Lamb have a good foundation to build on in the morning.

In the afternoon. Looking at the forecast, doubt we'll see any morning play, even the early afternoon looks a bit dodgy.

The Cricinfo report by Dobell

Interesting that Malan isn't contracted for the rest of the season. Time to get the contract signed I think.
