Larsen resigned, to go back to New Zealand. Hopefully, the 'Review' will lead to Robinson following him out if the door. A new broom is needed.

Glad someone on here knows how to start a new thread. I saw this on my phone at 4.30 and was quite shocked, one Kiwi in another one out. The amount of changes at this club since Will decided to move, is unbelievable but as you said BR, we were hoping for another person to leave.

Very interesting - again - that no comment from Robinson. About how he will miss Larsen, how much he has enjoyed working with him ..... blah, blah! I'm remain confident that MR is looking at a door which is very much ajar for him!

I wouldn't be surprised to learn that, IF (big if !) the 'Review' concludes that Robinson should go, we'll have to wait to wave a final farewell to him, with the priority to appoint a new Director of Cricket (or whatever title they come up for the job). That person will be tasked with leading the search for a new Head Coach. Robinson will obviously have to stay on, temporarily, to oversee training.

Can those with online access to The Cricketer (Gerry?!), summarise what they say about, "freshening up the high performance leadership team"? Could that involve Coaching staff?!

Doesn't expand too much. Sort of insinuates Larsen has jumped before he got pushed. Links Troughton to the job though acknowledges he currently works as batting coach at Surrey. Nothing mentioned about Robinson at all.

Interestingly in the Cricketer article about the Latham signing it mentions about the Performance Review that the state of the often lifeless pitches Edgbaston for 4day cricket will come under scrutiny too. Its not a dig at Barwell or his team but anybody with eyes can see that low and slow getting lower and slower is very much a theme for our home games. That square is dead. Looking at investing more in hybrid pitches, this will be a good thing.

A surprise Larsen went so suddenly. It indicates a ruthlessness which has been sorely lacking. At least he handed us a nice parting gift of Tom Latham.

No mention of the lame duck Robinson still, hopefully they will be equally as ruthless and we can start with a clean slate.

Troughton would be a good pick for Director of Cricket.

I agree Troughton could be a decent appointment, but I think it's a big jump after 2 years as an Assistant / Batting Coach at Surrey, plus experience as a 'not entirely successful' 1st Team Coach for us (and then Assistant 2nd Team Coach at Somerset), for the role that Larsen had.

Troughton has been Head Coach for us before hasn't he? 2018-2020?

Think DoC may suit him this time around.

Troughton did OK as head coach for us but I think DoC would suit him really well. He may even be able to persuade Bell or Trott to come in to replace Robinson.

Although not great Coaching credentials, perhaps he might be suited to a more administrative role, like Director of Cricket (or whatever title they now give to Larsen's job).He is certainly an intelligent guy (Psychology degree and a Masters in Leadership in Sport) and might make a decent DoC.

If JT did come back as DoC, I think his knowledge of Edgbaston 'politics', could mean he'd be quick to pick up on Robinson's standing at the club and the need to change things. And as KoS says, with his knowledge of the talents of ex-Colleagues, he'd be in prime position to bring in (and persuade) someone like Trotty.

I've got no doubt that Jimmy T would act quickly to do whatever is right for the club to be successful, starting with a new head coach and recruiting some good players.

In his Cricketer article, George Dobell said:
"It is too early to say for sure if Larsen will be the only member of the administrative or coaching staff to leave or to comment on who may replace him. While former club captain, Jim Troughton, would be a popular appointment, he is thriving in his current role on the coaching staff at Surrey and may prove tough to lure back. Equally, Ashley Giles has his hands full at Worcestershire and is unlikely to return at this stage.
If Larsen really is to oversee the transition, he will, no doubt, suggest a New Zealander replace him."
Liking a joke, George adds: "A return from Mark Greatbatch, however, seems most unlikely."

Dan Vettori hasn't done much since leaving the Aussie national team last year.

Most unlikely - I hope George wasn't joking !!

The latest edition of The Cricketer doesn't throw much light on what is happening at Edgbaston.
It says that it is "difficult not to be sceptical about the timing" of Larsen's departure in that it was timed "just hours before the results" of the review were due to be published. It suggests that the departures of Burgess and Rhodes indicated that "all was not well in the dressing room". At the same time, it quotes Larsen as saying that Edgbaston is "as positive an environment as I've been involved in." And Stuart Cain says of him that he has "worked tirelessly to improve the high-performance environment at Warwickshire."
Other than Rhodes, no-one with a surname beginning with the letter R is mentioned in the article.
Make of that what you will.

https://edgbaston.com/news/barnard-optimistic-ahead-of-new-season-and-vows-well-be-ready/

Is it just me, or is anyone else noting that the only recent pronouncement about optimism for the season, comes from the Vice Captain! Nothing from the Head Coach (or Captain, though he might be away with the Lions now)! My (hopeful) reading, is that the Club don't want to put anything from Robinson out now - when it's possible (likely?!) he could be leaving us soon, they're trying to drum up Early Bird Membership sales and don't want stir things up, until they go public on all the ramifications of the 'Review'.

It's been pretty quiet all winter on social media from the club comparison to previous off seasons.
