I don't know how to link it but Matt Roller has done a really good piece on ESPNCricinfo about these 2 lads with a nod to Rob Yates in it as well.

Dan and Jacob have been superb.
Not sure the best thing for their long term success is to throw them into a set up in turmoil, underperforming, with no coach, against the world champions and biggest rivals.

Get a coach in, let him assess the current squad, retire a few players, start afresh against the West Indies in October.

Just not worth the risk. I’d hate to see such good players, and great lads, have their confidence knocked and get an unfair reputation early if it went wrong because it wasn’t planned out and thought through properly.

That's a fair comment.

Dan was the star of the show last night for Birmingham Phoenix. He defended 10 off the last 10 balls taking 3 wickets in the process and only conceding 3 runs. He was rewarded with the hero of the match award.

Earlier Bethell had top scored with 46(29)

Their abilities are starting to be recognised beyond Warwickshire fans and dedicated county cricket journalists.

Let’s just hope they get handled properly, I’m also wondering what this means for their red ball careers.
Mousley has already started travelling off to franchise tournaments. He looks like he’d be very happy to be white ball only, but Bethell shows a lot of promise in red ball and I’d hate to see him pigeonholed too early.

Bristol is right. Bethell and Mousley are such rare talents that they need to be treated with care and not just thrown I'm against the super competitive Aussies. Hold them back for the Windies matches with a more settled environment.
Also, from a purely selfish point of view, if Bethell and Mousley are selected for the Australia ODIs that would probably rule them out of T20 Finals Day, should the Bears get there.

I did notice that. They'd miss the last 3 Championship games aswell.

That article seemed to get them the call up!

I see that Jacob is in the Melbourne Renegades squad for the Big Bash in December/January.

Not much joy for Jacob on his England debut - 0-28 off three overs and out for 2. Things can only get better (hopefully).

Some of the fielding when he was bowling wasn't great, at least two of the fours should have been cut off.

I wonder if they swap him for Dan. Or stick with him to give him some confidence.

I'm reminded of Jim Troughton. Aggressive LHB with a bit of SLA thrown in. In the era of Troughton, Trott & Bell, Jimmy T was the first to get an England call up, for ODIs against Pakistan. He wasn't really ready for it and his international career quickly fizzled out.
From what I've seen of Bethell, he will be a good player one day but he isn't there yet. I hope England aren't about to spoil him.

Interesting point re comparison with Troughton. England are definitely better at selection than they were so I don't think Jacob and Dan will do a Troughton. It's definitely worth pointing out that their selection wasn't based on output though, more on potential. Both fizzled out a bit in the Crisp tournament. Don't know if that helps them or not.

I had exactly the same thought that Bethell's selection had a whiff of Troughton's call up. It took Jim a while to get over that experience. But I have confidence that Bethell is a rare talent and the England set up is good at nurturing talent these days.

Both are included in the squad for the "White ball" trip to the West Indies.
