I would imagine 2 of the 4 youngsters (Batchelor, Wylie, Taz Ali and Kai Smith) will stand down, but Hamza will get the gig.

I thought that Chris Benjamin might have been selected for this game, to give him a chance to score some runs. It will be good to see Che Simmons back, he looked promising at the start of the season.

I like the look of that. In the best way, I hope we see less of Lintott in that he gets one of the remaining 100 slots. Also, would like to see Wylie and Taz do the spin bowling. Edward Batchelor I've never heard of. Can anyone fill me in?

Edward Batchelor, 18 year old right arm medium bowler. Played a couple of 2nd XI games this season.

Ed also played a lot of games for Staffs. I guess he will be facing them today.

Our XI:-
Yates
Rhodes
Shaikh
Barnard (Captain!)
Wylie
Burgess (Keeper)
Booth
Kai Smith
Lintott
Taz Ali
OHD

We won the toss and chose to bat.

Interestingly, Staffs have current (2024) Bears, Jake Garlick & Sam Atkinson playing (and 2023 Bear, Rory Haydon). I don't know if Ed Batchelor is our 12th man!

Think we released Haydon?

I don't want to read too much into this team selection but I'm a bit disappointed Simmons isn't getting more of a look in.

I agree but hopefully they will play him at some stage in this competition.

Thanks for that link up the feed, useful to see the academy players who are in the frame. I think this is a variation on discussions we've had on the season in that I think we are missing one seamer and a specialist middle order bat. We seem well stocked for spinners and keepers.

To Andy's point, I don't think we will see Simmons and Booth play in the same team this year (wayward) and I hope we don't see Lintott and OHD (Or any of the veteran red ball seamers, just isn’t looking to the future). All of which I think means we see Benjamin at some stage this year in middle to lower order.

It's why I like this competition though, it's a real look to the future.

How come we are away for 4 of our first 5 fixtures in the One Day Cup? This coming week we're having to travel to Chelmsford, Leicester and then Hove all in the space of 5 days, that must be a bit of a disadvantage to us in the early matches due to all that travelling.
