It says that Liam Norwell is injured - surely not?
The reference to Bob Wyatt and his 900 wickets reminds me that I interviewed him years ago just after his 90th birthday. For some reason, I said to him; "Do you wish you had bowled more?" to which he replied: "I did take over 900 wickets!"
He didn't suffer fools (especially this one) gladly.

Not the best start to the season. Worrying if Norwell is injured already? On top of that, Hasan Ali unavailable along with Woakes and Hain. Recall Craig Miles!

Curious to read in The Cricketer that Michael Booth is playing as an overseas player and does not qualify as a local player until the end of the 2025 season...

Fluent half century from Rhodes.

A pretty good day; but could have been even better if it hadn't been for a very poor lbw decision against Ed Barnard and a dozy run out for Jacob Bethell.

Entertaining day, glad to not let our neighbours get to 400 but Barnard played beautifully and never looked hurried but got a shocker, watched it a few times and Worcestershire were not that convinced either, that along with 'Dozy' (You are so right GerryShedd) Bethell spoilt it a bit but hopefully some sort of lead would be nice even though the new ball is 1 over away. Impressed with Mousely, composed and didn't get carried away with things and try to score at breakneck speed. Very windy though, a bigger and warmer coat tomorrow I think.

A good day all round. Thought we were going to have one of those endings when Bethell ran himself out. Was preparing myself for Burgess then Briggs coming in for the last 4 overs in the gloom and getting Jaffa’s.

Feel like we should be level now. We gave away 50-60 runs with some shocking bowling, then immediately very defensive fields in the first 2 sessions.

Pitch seems too good for a result unless Worcs collapse, so time will tell.

Anyone know why Norwell is out of the team? Worrying if it's yet another injury, especially to his troublesome back.

Disastrous start to the day

Good player Burgess but what was he doing there?

Maybe they know there is rain on its way and are trying to get on with it but he was playing all around that delivery

That's gotta be the 4th or 5th time now Mousley has gone at the end of a day well set as the not out batter then got out quickly the next day and exposed the tail.

Terrible LBW decision........high and going down. At best it was clipping off stump, if somebody was holding it in the air!!

Not good from us though, poor stuff this.

Lots of good starts but no one able to play an innings defining knock.

Plenty for the batting coach to work on….

Anything short or wide and Briggs needs to try and get onto it

We have lost 7 for 85 since Barnard got out. Pretty awful really.

Thrown it away.

Now relying on bowlers to get us back into it!

Not an ideal start to the day, but I think some perspective needed.
Brand new ball, starting again on a new day, bowlers rested overnight, gloomy and overcast. Worst case scenario. Everything was in the bowlers favour.
Far bigger issues with the dismissals of Yates, Davies, Rhodes and Bethell. They’d got through, got set, and threw it away. When you get in, go big, hundreds win matches not the 20’s to 60’s our top order too often specialise in.
The first session bowling being at least average would have meant we’d have a lead now.
So Mousley and Burgess getting out this morning to a brand new ball, that happens. It will always happen. There are much bigger issues.
We need to bowl well now. Can’t bowl as poorly as we did before.

Bethell was run out so sloppy as opposed to a bad shot, Rhodes had played so well and times the ball nicely so I suppose he tried something when well set as batsmen do but Burgess played a poor shot to a new ball, never decided to have a look first, still poor though as this Worcestershire attack is not that good.

Same underlying problems with the batting. Without Hain they struggle. We could do with signing a top overseas batsman - but international commitments usually get in the way.

The “he tried something” when set is just excusing him of any responsibility though. When you’re in, timing it well, don’t change anything. Keep going. Cash in.
Burgess played down the wrong line, early in his innings. It happens to every batsman.
A overseas batsman would be ideal. We need a player to show how to cash in consistently and take responsibility. I can’t understand signing Booth if he’s playing as an overseas, as that prevents us playing him and a batting overseas if we’ve already signed Hassan Ali. Also will we not be playing 2 T20 overseas if he plays T20?
Seems a strange decision.
