I’ll be honest, I think the difference between the 2 sides was the toss. Surrey spent much of today batting in the sun, on an improving pitch.
The bears batted under lights, in damp, tough conditions. I think they bowled very well, but don’t think they bowled better than us. I think Robinson is right, if we played yesterday, there’s no reason we couldn’t have played the first hour today, and Surrey had to bat in the gloom and damp for a bit. I agree the fact Burgess and Woakes got out in a period where we’ve gone off for similar light before is really frustrating.
The key now is take the last 2, bat well and see if we can get a draw because I don’t think the weather forecast as it is now will allow us enough time to build a big enough lead to force a win.

We've competed well here and fought really hard. We've been unlucky too losing the toss and getting shoved in those conditions, as perfect a bowling day as you could imagine. Yes that 2 wickets in 2 balls yesterday was a total kick in the guts when it looked as though we were maybe able to put Surrey under pressure. Rushworth opening spell was immense, just doesn't bowl a bad ball. Woakes will bowl worse than he today in the future and walk off with 3 or 4 poles, beat the bat so many times so unlucky. Best I've seen Barnard bowl. OHD a constant threat.

If we finish them off early tomorrow who knows, all to play for.

Good game so far, proper cricket.

I understand they’ve come out and been aggressive this morning. But we have not used the new ball well.
After all the hard work yesterday, we’ve really let them get away here. They polished us off very quickly; we’ve let them build a significant lead.

Poor from us this morning. Surrey doing to us what we should have done to them yesterday morning.

Really good from Jamie Smith this. This is what we needed Dan Mousley to do yesterday.

Bears in real trouble at lunch on 22/4. Poor batting with Roach causing havoc. Hain gone cheaply for 3, Davies 0, Yates 14 and Rhodes 5. We'll be lucky to avoid an innings defeat.....

Still six wickets to go but we've been outplayed by a better side so far.

Mousley slashed at wide ball that he should have left alone and got out. Totally unnecessary. Now 35/5

If this Surrey side are the best in the country, then perhaps the CC is not that good. Take Roach out of the attack and they look very ordinary. Apart from plenty of dodgy decisions that went their way when we played them at The Oval last season, I do wonder how these strutters managed to win the title. We had the usual whooping and jumping about when they took wickets as we had in the Dernbach sides of old but they look nowt special but it doesn't look like us who will dislodge them. Poor bowling this morning, lower order batsmen who are throwing the bat, love 'length' bowling and cannot usually cope with yorkers but yet again as against Kent, we never saw any.

Strutters indeed, sending out bowlers to knock off the runs......but we were well beaten sadly.

Such a poor performance overall. The only time we really had Surrey in trouble was when they were 143 for 5 but of course they ended up virtually doubling that and our top order capitulated again. A lack of pace could be a problem this summer.

I still think we lost this game 15 minutes before the start of play on day 1.

Roach and Worrall bowled really well up front but we really did give them some help. Yates got an unplayable one, that was an absolute seed. Davies got a decent delivery but when you go at the ball as hard as he does you are gonna repeatedly nick off. Hain should have left that one. Rhodes footwork is poor early on in his innings, played across the line. Mousley, as much as I rate him he is a little loose outside of off stump. Burgess slashed at a wide one.

Surrey were on it right from the word go today though, Roach is excellent at left handers and Worrall doesn't bowl any bad balls.

And Jamie Smith was terrific this morning as Worrall chanced his arm.

Matt Lamb 99 today away at Durham against a really good attack of Carse, Potts, Raine and Coughlin...

It is a bit of a *** take to send out the bowlers to get the runs but glad we got Worrall out, that might shut him up for about 5 minutes. It might be too early but this shows me that we won't make a solid impact in the CC this season. Oh! well, I have saved on the petrol I would have used tomorrow.

We need Norwell back asap. He would add more potency to an already decent bowling attack. A bit worrying that he's still injured so early in the season having not bowled at all so far......

Really poor today but predictable unfortunately. Surrey with Roach are just better than us

Rhodes.. questions need to be asked now, hopefully he can answer them. I'd be tempted to move him up to open and see how he goes.

Now I have a 9pm flight back to Dublin tomorrow with no cricket to watch..cheers guys!

Why and how is Norwell injured? What has he done between the Hampshire game in Sept '22 till now, to get injured. It is like Rankin syndrome all over again, when Boyd would be unavailable at the start of a season whilst having not played during the Winter months.

Have to disagree with your earlier point Paul. I think Surrey look a very decent team that could hold their own in these conditions against any test side. George Dobell described Warks circa 2011-2013 as perhaps the third best team in the world if they had Bell and Trott available and in English conditions. I think Surrey are almost at that level.

Some of Warwickshire's long term frailties came through today;

Failure to polish off the tail
Top order batting caught betwixt and between
Over reliance on Hain more recently but prior to that lower middle order for runs

But Kemar Roach is a very decent bowler who if he were England qualified would've likely been selected for ODI or test squads 5-10 years ago

Worrall looked superb attacked the batsman and Jordan Clark looks like he has all the attributes for international cricket.
