I love Norwell's attitude to bowling. He pounds in off the same run up without any thought to shortening it or slowing his pace down, he keeps on and is relentless. He made a huge difference and it will be an interesting game if we don't make a mess of things tomorrow. Quite surprised at Croft's innings, he was scoring at about 66/100 balls but as he was running out of partners, he didn't try and get on with it and slowed down and in the end when he decided to push it on a bit, he got out. Glad he did because he has punished us a few time before.

Just seen an article on the BBC Cricket website 'What's wrong with this season's cricket balls', there was a lot of looking at the balls in both days of this game and it doesn't seem to make a difference if it's a low or high scoring game.

According to the BBC report on today's game Croft had made just 3 runs v Bears in his three previous innings

Also a suggestion that Dane Vilas "may have had a point" being aggrieved at being given caught round the corner off Briggs. The video suggests no such thing - if anything it is very inconclusive. Could just as easily conclude he feathered the ball with his bat or glove

Good game this. Lancs are seasoned veterans at these low scoring dog fights but Bears in recent seasons have shown they can slug it out too

Very interesting day today; arrived at 15 for 1 and stayed until the end.

One minor criticism, I felt our field settings could have been more aggressive at times, particularly early in Brookes' first spell (He was posing some real questions of Lancs) and during the second new ball (OHD was bowling with just two slips with the ball just 6 overs old)

However, we stuck to the task well and got crucial wickets just when Lancs looked settled at the crease. A big day tomorrow; hopefully roll the last pair over quickly and then a big score.

Updated average for Yates is 12.81, excluding his one good score he is averaging 8.6.
For Davies, the figues are 23.66, and minus top score 18.50

Fair play to Davies, this is a crucial innings under a lot of pressure, fighting for his place, against his former club, match in the balance

As has been said, a determined innings from Davies under the circumstances, pleasing efforts by Brookes and Burgess too.

A good day's cricket all round and (hopefully) another good day tomorrow. I thought Williams and Bailey bowled well early and and didn't give much away, so credit to Davies for sticking to the task.

I loved the way Davies decided to drop anchor and bat time when wickets fell and as soon as he found someone to stick around Burgess/Briggs/Brookes (Should we employ more players who's surname starts with 'B'), he started to open up and it was a refreshing attitude which has put us in a good position. The pitch looks a bit dead but I suppose 30 wickets falling in 3 days suggests we could win, we are slight favourites and so much better to watch than the game v Northamptonshire on a lump of concrete which wouldn't have produced a result in 10 days.

One thing I would say is Lancs need work on their attempted run outs.

They missed countless direct hit opportunities which would have curtailed our progress.

Say one thing that boy Williams looks very good for Lancs. I was wondering how bowling 2 days out of 3 would affect him after his impressive figures Day 1 and fresh into the county game but he did fine again. Hopefully Norwell can withstand the same rigour of bowling 2 in 3 after his extended lay off

Yes, Williams looks a decent overseas signing. Ours is away with Australia A. I struggle to see why on current form....

It was great to see Davies play a good innings, hopefully he'll continue to move forward and play more good innings.

His average is now above 30, while not great, i is a lot betetr than before.

The ECB need to seriously look at the state of the balls they are using this season- we have just had the fourth unscheduled ball change in the last 3 days.

This innings from Wells is one of the luckiest I can recall.

Been disappointed by Briggs this innings. Really hasn’t offered much in terms of control or threat. Just seems like he’s gone through the motions a bit, which isn’t great on a fourth day pitch with plenty of rough for a left hander.
