Worse now that apparently Foakes is not just concussed but may have damaged his shoulder.
Re Burgess, he's certainly putting his name in the frame. Good for him and also good for whoever decided to recruit him. I didn't see this coming.
It's hard to know what England might do as there's no management there at present. Who gets to pick the team? Notwithstanding a mediocre West Indies tour, I would still have Foakes as automatic choice if fit. He is streets ahead of any other gloveman and a more than useful batter. So if he's injured, England would be looking for only a temporary replacement. They'll have Bairstow in their ear demanding the gloves (there are worse options). With Rob Key in the hierarchy they may go for Sam Billings, who is a good player but still a bit of a stranger to red ball cricket. They may also want the excuse to have another look at James Bracey as they seem to think he could be a top order batter.
I think there are some England Lions games this year which might see Burgess get a chance but I don't think he'll play Tests. All the better for us.
Firstly, a great win.
Was a pretty even contest on the whole I think, but decided by two things, the Essex collapse, and the Burgess innings. He has to be MOM purely for that knock.
I do also think though that he probably won't get a look in for England just yet due to the number of options available. Foakes is surely a shoe in when fit as hasn't let the team down really when picked, and hasn't even been tried in England yet, and I agree that Bairstow would be an automatic pick for when Foakes is injured. And even Buttler may come in based on IPL form - rightly or wrongly.
Very impressed by Alex Davies - compact, tight technique and a beautifully paced match winning innings. Looks a superb signing and an excellent addition to what is looking a really strong squad.
Yes, a convincing win in the end. Looks likely that Davies will continue as an opener? A good combination with Dom Sibley who will play the anchor role I'd imagine? We still have McAndrew to come in yet! A very strong squad!
Essex are a good side so that represents an excellent performance.
Selection for the next match won't be easy with McAndrew available, especially if Norwell is fit to play.
Great win against a strong team. Michael Burgess oustanding and all the bowlers contributed. We look well placed to defend our title.
I wish the commentators on the live feed were a bit more interesting.

I was there at the weekend but Friday looked amazing from what I saw on the live feed, Burgess just looks like he can do anything with the bat so far and having the ability of the tail to just stay in is a massive help. I hat it when tailenders just come in like they don't care and give their wicket away. They do not need to even look to score, just having someone at the other end who can score is enough and O.H.D's stubborn refusal to surrender is admirable. I do feel we will get periods like we saw on Saturday when Briggs/Rhodes bowled, where we looked stale and lacking in ideas but we hung in which summed up our endeavours last season.

I don’t think he will be fit. Believe Robinson said the concussion protocol means he’ll definitely miss Somerset, but should be back afterwards as long as he meets the recovery criteria.
McAndrew for Norwell, and then potentially Miles for Brookes, as he definitely bowled better than Brookes in that second innings.
